The Turbanator donned the Mumbai Indians jersey in 136 matches and took 127 wickets for the franchise in the 10 years he played for them. His phenomenal off-spin bowling and big hitting down the order helped the Mumbai side win several matches but the Mukesh Ambani owned franchise decided to release him ahead of the 2018 IPL auction.

In the 2018 IPL auction, Chennai Super Kings bought the Punjab off-spinner for his base price of Rs 2 crore. In the 13 matches he played for CSK last year, he was able to pick 7 wickets and he has been retained by the franchise for the upcoming season as well.

Ambati Rayudu made his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians in the year 2010 and impressed one and all with his consistent batting performances. Rayudu aggregated 356 runs in his maiden season and was touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket.

His consistency led to his call-up to the national team but in the year 2016, Mumbai Indians did not include Rayudu in their first playing XI due to his dip in form. He was then released by them ahead of the 2018 IPL auction.

Chennai Super Kings picked up Rayudu in the auction and MS Dhoni promoted the right-handed batsman to the opening position, a move which changed his IPL career. 2018 was the best season of Rayudu's career and hence, he was retained by CSK for the upcoming IPL 2019.
