For the longest period of time, the record for the best bowling figures registered in an IPL match, belonged to Pakistan's left-arm seamer, Sohail Tanvir.

Tanvir, who represented the Rajasthan Royals in the 2008 season, registered figures of 6/14 (4) against the Chennai Super Kings in Jaipur.

Over the course of the next 10 years, many bowlera came close to matching Tanvir's feat but failed.

The legendary Anil Kumble claimed 5/5 against RR in IPL 2009 while Ishant Sharma and Lasith Malinga claimed the same at the cost of 10 runs during the 2011 season.

James Faulkner (5/16 vs SRH in 2013), Adam Zampa (6/19 vs SRH in 2016) and Ankit Rajpoot (5/14 in SRH in 2018) also came agonisingly close but failed.

The record was finally broken by West Indian pacer Alzarri Joseph during the 2019 edition.

Joseph, who was playing for the Mumbai Indians at the time, claimed 6/12 in just 3.4 overs against the SunRisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
