Like the Orange Cap is awarded to the highest run scorer of an IPL season, the highest wicket-taking bowler gets honored with a purple cap every year. In 2017, Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the purple cap playing for SRH by taking highest 26 wickets. From the same team, David Warner also won an Orange Cap that year.

#8 Umesh Yadav (KKR)
Another KKR fast pacer Umesh Yadav finished in the top 10 leaderboards of highest wicket-takers in IPL 2017. He also took 17 wickets but at a better strike rate of 17.11 in 14 innings.
Yadav usually gets his wickets in the powerplay overs. With his capability to swing the bowl, he helped the KKR team to get early breakthroughs. His economy was 8.45, and he also took one 4 wicket haul.
#7 Sandeep Sharma (KXIP)
Sandeep Sharma is an Indian bowler who consistently performs in every IPL season. The young bowler scalped a total of 17 wickets in 13 innings. Sandeep usually swings the ball in both the directions to trap the batsmen with his pace bowling.

#6 Rashid Khan (SRH)
The youth sensation from Afghanistan took 17 wickets in 14 innings by conceding just 358 runs. Rashid Khan bowled with different variations like googly and leg spin which helped him dominate many star players.
He bowled with an economy rate of 6.62 with an average of 21.05. He showcased his talents and proved that he is a big player in making. He had carried his momentum in the next edition of IPL also as he had taken 21 wickets in IPL 2018.
#5 Imran Tahir (RPS)
After being ignored in the auction in 2016, Imran Tahir was recruited by RPS as a backup spinner in the team. But after receiving a chance, the leg spinner made comeback like a hero with his deadly leg-spin and took 18 wickets in only 12 innings.
The spinner from South Africa was making batsmen helpless with his bowling skills. He played a major role in the team’s success and led his team to the finals. He took 18 wickets with a strike rate of 15.66 and a 7.85 economy rate.

#4 Mitchell McClenaghan (MI)
Mitchell McClenaghan, the fast pacer from New Zealand scalped 19 wickets for Mumbai Indians in 2017. Though he doesn’t have an impressive record at international level, he never fails to shine in IPL.
Despite being too expensive with an economy of 9.38, he managed to get 19 wickets. His bowling skills were effective as he always got the wicket for his team when needed.
#3 Jasprit Bumrah (MI)
Jasprit Bumrah helped Mumbai Indians to win the trophy with his deadly and unorthodox bowling. He took 20 wickets at a strike rate of 18.10 and left his mark in the IPL.

#2 Jaydev Unadkat (RPS)
Jaydev Unadkat improved his bowling skills after joining RPS. Due to his memorable performance in IPL 2017, he got a national call up in quick time. He was the key pacer in RPS team and didn’t fail to impress as he took 24 wickets in 12 innings.
The specialty of his bowling was the off cutter and the slower delivery that he used to bowl and trap the batsmen. With his heroics, RPS reached the finals. He also took a hat-trick in that edition of IPL. He had a bowling strike rate of 11.45 and an economy of 7.02.
#1 Bhuvneshwar Kumar (SRH)
Nicknamed Bhuvi, Kumar won the purple cap by collecting 26 wickets in his name in IPL 2017. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is someone who swings the ball beautifully and also bowls unplayable yorkers. Carrying his form from IPL 2016, he won the purple cap for the 2nd consecutive time.

He had an economy rate of 7.05 and an average of 14.19 in the 14 innings he bowled in. He also earned a five-wicket haul in IPL 2017. But, it didn’t help SRH to win the IPL trophy.
