Super Overs are arguably one of the most thrilling tie-breakers in the history of this sport. While the previous tie-breaker - the bowl-out - felt like a lottery and alienated other cricketing skills, the Super Over brings all the facets into play. And now that we have multiple one-over shootouts in case of a tied Super Over, the concept has become even more thrilling.

We have witnessed plenty of Super Overs in the IPL over the years. To be precise, 14 Super Overs have taken place across the past 16 seasons of the cash-rich league.

The first ever Super Over took place between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals in April 2009, which RR won with 2 balls to spare thanks to Yusuf Pathan, who smashed the desired 15 runs in a mere 4 deliveries.

Both these sides featured in another Super Over tussle in 2014, and once again it was Rajasthan who came out trumps.

Since then, the Knight Riders have featured in three more Super Overs- vs Delhi Capitals in 2019 & vs SunRisers Hyderabad in 2020- in which they lost to DC thanks to brilliant death bowling skills from Kagiso Rabada before coming up trumps against SRH, a year later.

Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, played another Super Over in IPL 2015, which they ultimately lost to the Punjab Kings.

Speaking of Punjab Kings, the franchise has been quite a regular when it comes to playing the Super Over. Till date, the franchise has featured in 4 Super Over encounters- which also includes a double Super Over against MI in IPL 2020- thus far and has come out on top in three of them.

Their only loss came against DC in IPL 2020.

As far as DC is concerned, the Delhi-based franchise has featured in 4 Super Overs so far, winning three of them, including the most recent one against the SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021.

CSK featured in a Super Over way back in 2010, which they ended up losing to the Punjab Kings.

With regards to the Mumbai Indians, the five-time winners won their first two Super Over bouts against Gujarat Lions and SunRisers Hyderabad in 2017 and 2019 respectively thanks to the magic of Jasprit Bumrah.

But, the franchise suffered back-to-back Super-over defeats in the 2020 season against RCB and PBKS.

SunRisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, have won just one Super Over out of the four they've participated in.

Unfortunately, we haven’t witnessed a Super Over in the past two editions of the IPL. Fans will be hoping for the drought to end this summer.
