Jasprit Bumrah is currently one of the fiercest fast bowlers in International cricket. The bowler who was initially known for this uncanny bowling action is now the No.1 bowler in ODIs. He is one of the most vicious bowlers when it comes to bowling in the death overs.

The Gujarat born is one of the core members of the Mumbai Indians. His pace and skills have earned him great recognition and also recently, the elite A+ contract of the BCCI. The A+ contract of the BCCI has also been given to players like the run machine and captain of the Indian team, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.


IPL Performance

He has consistently bowled over 100 dots balls in every season of the last 3 IPLs. He picked up 17 wickets at an impressive average of 21.88 in IPL 2018. He also bowled with an Economy rate of 6.88 bowling 133 dots in the recently concluded season of the IPL.

His heroics in the 2017 IPL also helped Mumbai Indians win the IPL. He ended as the third highest wicket-taker putting up his best ever performance in the IPL picking 20 wickets at an average of 22.20. He’s made huge strides as he is now a crucial part of the Indian team in all the formats of the game. A few of his major performances have been as follows:

Most wickets picked up a bowler in T20 Internationals in a Calendar Year

In 2016, Bumrah overcame the record set by Australia’s T20 specialist Dirk Nannes to claim the most wickets in T20 internationals in a calendar year, claiming 28 wickets.

The second T20 International against England in Nagpur in 2017

After his show against England in the second T20 international at Nagpur in 2017, he earned the title of one of the most dangerous bowlers at the death. With 8 runs needed in the last over and with the likes of the dangerous Jos Buttler, Joe Root, and Moeen Ali, England were the favourites to cruise home.

However, Bumrah’s deadly bowling not only got him the wickets of both Root and Buttler but also won India the game by 5 runs. With his figures of 4 for 20 in his quota of 4 overs, he recorded his 8th time conceding less than 6 runs per over in T20 International. This feat was achieved 23 games.

Highest Wicket Taker in the ODI Series against New Zealand

In the ODI series against New Zealand in 2017-18, he shined once again picking up the most wickets in the 3 games at an economy rate of 4.86.

India Tour of South Africa

With his consistent performances in the ODIs and T20s, he was included in the squad for the Test side for the tour of South Africa. Mohammad Shami and Bumrah led the Indian bowling attack and they rattled the South Africans.

He picked up 14 wickets in 3 games and also ended as the second highest wicket-taker behind Shami who took 15 wickets. He followed his Test performance with 8 wickets at an economy rate of 3.97 in the ODI series against the South Africans.

Bumrah returned from injury in the Test Series against England to lead the bowling attack and pick up 14 wickets in the 3 matches.

In the recently concluded Asia Cup, Bumrah once again played a pivotal role as India emerged winners. He was rested for the opener against Hong Kong.

Bumrah’s first game in the 2018 Asia Cup was against Pakistan where he was the pick of the Indian bowlers bowling 2 maidens and picking up 2 wickets in 7.1 overs conceding only 23 runs. He followed this performance up with 3 wickets against Bangladesh in the Super 4s.

When India played Pakistan in the Super 4s, Bumrah once again put on a fierce display as he picked up 2 wickets going for less than 3 runs an over in his 10 over spell. In the finals against Bangladesh, he bowled 8.3 overs going for 39 runs and picking up 1 wicket. At the end of the Asia Cup, Bumrah ended with 8 wickets to his name bowling with an economy rate of 3.67 and an average of 16.

Performance against the Windies in the On-going ODI Series

India had rested their premier bowlers, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah for the first two ODIs against the Windies. Bumrah returned in the third ODI and picked up 4 wickets. He only conceded 35 runs in his 10 over spell. In the 4th ODI where India won by 224 runs, Bumrah put up another good show conceding 25 runs in his 8 overs picking up 1 wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah will play a crucial role in India’s quest to win the coveted 2019 World Cup and will definitely be one of the players to watch out for.
