Following a stunning nine wicket victory for debutants Rising Pune Supergiants in the first match of the VIVO IPL 2016, all eyes will be turned towards the other debutant Gujarat Lions in anticipation of the brand of cricket the Suresh Raina led-side present on the eve of their first match against Kings XI Punjab.

With no injuries reported for the Kings XI, newly appointed skipper David Miller will be a happy man with the options he has at his disposal. The batting department poses the face of a powerhouse with the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Shaun Marsh, Wriddhiman Saha and the skipper himself capable of tearing the opposition to shreds. Seasoned campaigner Murali Vijay will add a wealth of experience at the top of the order, while the bowling is led by the fiery Mitchell Johnson and Indian spinner Akshar Patel.
Going face-to face against a strong team like the Gujarat Lions will mean that Miller will have to be at the top of his game to ensure that his team crosses the finish line which makes it interesting to see how ‘Killer Miller’ handles the squad.

After playing under the able wings of MS Dhoni for eight years, Suresh Raina will don a new role of captaincy when the Lions take to the field against a recouping Punjab outfit. The team looks menacing with world-class allrounders such as Bravo, Faulkner and Jadeja forming the core of the team alongside skipper Raina and the dangerous Brendon McCullum.
The presence of Aaron FInch and Dinesh Karthik adds stability to the squad, while Dale Steyn’s prescence in the line-up will be a great boost for the young local bowlers in the squad although he has not been in great form. The experienced duo of Praveen Kumar and Pravin Tambe will also be a driving force for the Lions. However, filling up the foreigners slots might just be a minor head-ache for the Gujarat think-tank, which will be interesting to look out for once the team sheets are drawn out.
