Marsh not to renew contract as Australia chief selector

Melbourne, Oct 13 (IANS) Australia's chairman of selectors Rod Marsh has announced that he will step down from his post after his contract expires in June 2017, Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed on Thursday.

Marsh joined the selection committee in 2011 under then chairman John Inverarity and then took over as chairman in 2014 after the former left.

"We can confirm that Rod Marsh has decided not to continue on in his role as national selector once his contract expires in June 2017. At this stage no decision has been made on a replacement," a CA spokesperson said.

The 2016-17 summer will therefore be the last under the current selection panel comprising Marsh, Trevor Hohns, Mark Waugh and coach Darren Lehmann.

Under their tenure, the Kangaroos not only won the ODI World Cup in 2015 but also regained the top spot in Tests earlier this year albeit for a short while.

The Australians, have however struggled in their overseas Test tours, including the 0-2 loss to Pakistan in the UAE in 2014, the Ashes loss in England last year and the 0-3 humiliation by Sri Lanka this year.
