Irrespective of the format, consistency is one of the biggest traits of a player. While a ton might be a bigger landmark in the longer versions of the game, a score of fifty is a significant landmark and contribution in T20 cricket. In IPL cricket, only 40 batsmen have scored 10 or more fifties in their IPL careers. However, there are eight players that have 25 or more fifties while there are six batsmen who have got 30 or more half-centuries.

The 12th season of the Indian Premier League is looming large in just about a few days, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will square off against each other to kickstart the season. As we build up to another big season, it’s important to look back at some of the consistent batsmen across the 11 seasons. Hence, here’s a look at most half-centuries hit by batsmen in the history of the IPL.

Note – In case of a tie in the number of half-centuries, the player with higher runs has been given precedence.

#5 Rohit Sharma – 34

Rohit Sharma is the third highest run-getter in the IPL.

In the last 11 seasons, there has been just one season in which Rohit Sharma hasn’t scored 300 or more runs in just one season (which was last year). The Mumbai Indians skipper has been very consistent over the years and has been the backbone of his team.

Rohit Sharma has scored 34 half-centuries in 168 innings while amassing 4493 runs at an average of 31.87. He is third on the list of all-time highest run-getters in the IPL. The 2016 season was the best for the Indian limited-overs vice-captain as far as fifties are concerned. He struck five half-centuries in that season. In 2008 and 2013, he got four each while in most of the others he got three.

Hence, with 34 half-centuries, Rohit is ranked fifth on the chart of most fifties in IPL history.

Virat Kohli is one of the biggest stars of the IPL and Indian cricket. He is not only in contention of becoming the leading run-getter in IPL cricket but could well become the first batsman to get to the 5000-run landmark. In the last 8 seasons (since 2011), Kohli has managed to register over 500 runs in a season five times.

The Indian skipper has 4948 runs at an average of 38.35. He has struck 34 half-centuries and four hundreds in his IPL career so far. The 2016 season was a record-breaking one for him as he amassed a jaw-dropping 973 runs in the season, hitting seven fifties and four hundreds as he led the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to the final of the season.

The RCB skipper is the only player in the history of this league to have turned out for just one franchise ever since it’s inception.

Any IPL batting record seems incomplete without Suresh Raina. The Uttar Pradesh left-hander has been one of the most consistent players in the history of the competition.

He has been his team’s premier batsman over the last 11 seasons - nine years for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and two years in the middle (2016 and 2017 when CSK were suspended) for the Gujarat Lions (GL).

Raina has amassed a minimum of 370 runs in every season. Barring the 2012 season where he scored just one half-century, the left-handed No. 3 has scored multiple fifties in every season. With 35 fifties, he is third on this list of most fifties.

#2 David Warner – 36

David Warner has had a terrific time between 2015 and 2017. He simply dominated most batting charts and was a huge part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s success during that time. He led SRH to the title in 2016 while they also made it to the playoffs in 2017.

Warner, in that three year period, scored 2051 runs at an average of almost 54 and it included 20 half-centuries which are almost 56% of his total career IPL half-centuries. He is tied at 36 fifties but due to a lesser number of runs, he is ranked second.

#1 Gautam Gambhir – 36

Gautam Gambhir's seven years at KKR were some of the most fruitful years.

Gautam Gambhir’s name might just send a surprise or two to a few people. But Gambhir was one of the most consistent as far as fifties were concerned. He might not be a player who could run away with the game but he batted long and ensured that the scoreboard was ticking all the time.

The former KKR skipper made 36 fifties while scoring 4217 runs in his IPL career. In fact, he is the only batsman in this list who doesn’t have a hundred in his T20 career. However, the former Delhi opener knew how to get big runs and be effective.
