Captain Rohit Sharma (R) was absolutely furious when Arshdeep Singh dropped the catch

Arshdeep Singh's dropped catch and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's expensive 19th over proved to be the difference between India and Pakistan as the latter won the game in Dubai on Sunday, September 4, by five wickets with a ball to spare.

The Super 4 clash of the Asia Cup 2022 went right down to the wire, and after Muhammad Rizwan's dismissal (71 off 52 balls) in the 17th over, it looked like the Men in Blue would claw their way back into the game. However, Arshdeep dropped an absolute sitter at short third man after Asif Ali miscued a shot off Ravi Bishnoi in the very next over. Captain Rohit Sharma was visibly furious at the missed opportunity.

The dropped catch came back to haunt India as Asif (16 off eight) and Khushdil Shah (14 off 11) smashed Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 19 runs in the penultimate over. Arshdeep showed great fight to take the game deep, but just seven runs were never going to be enough for India to defend in the final over.

Fans on Twitter slammed Arshdeep for dropping an absolute dolly, while some also questioned Bhuvneshwar for not bowling yorkers at the death.

Here are some of the reactions:

Indian bowlers have themselves to blame

After posting 181-7, the Men in Blue started well on the bowling front, dismissing Pakistan captain Babar Azam (14 off 10) early yet again. Rizwan, who was a bit slow out of the blocks, then began to take the attack to the opposition. Yuzvendra Chahal then picked up the wicket of Fakhar Zaman (15 off 18) in the ninth over and it looked like India were in control of the game.

However, Pakistan had a masterstroke up their sleeve as they sent Mohammad Nawaz at No. 4. The left-handed batter took on Chahal and even Hardik Pandya, smashing 42 off just 20 balls.

The Men in Blue dismissed both set batters in Rizwan and Nawaz, but Arshdeep's dropped catch proved to be costly. Rohit and Co. will next take on Sri Lanka on Tuesday (September 6) before locking horns with Afghanistan on Thursday (September 8).
