Jacques Henry Kallis, the greatest all-rounder of modern cricket bid adieu to his Test career at Durban against India where he made his Test debut vs England 18 years ago in 1995. Kallis was running out of form the whole year. Before taking field in his 166th and final Test of his career he was averaging just 17.63 in 7 Tests and 12 innings he batted in 2013. It was a challenge for him to finish on top and make the Test a memorable one.

Kallis had lot of milestones and records to aim for in this period of 5 days as he being a complete cricketer who finds his name in all categories of milestones, statistics and records which not many claim for. Nevertheless great cricketers pass through some milestone in every match they play.

# On the second day of the Test (27th December 2013), on the 5th ball of 108th over, Kallis caught Ravindra Jadeja off the bowling of JP Duminy to get his 200th catch of his 166 match Test career. He became only the second player to take 200 or more catches as non-wicketkeeper after Rahul Dravid who also took his 200th catch at the same venue exactly 3 years ago (27th December 2010).

# The catch was also his 336th in his international career. It made him equal Rahul Dravid as the 3rd most number of catches as non-wicketkeeper in international cricket.

# Jacques Kallis came to bat at No.4, his usual position, it was his 85th innings at No.4 in Tests at home. He overtook Jayawardene (84) to bat second most number of times at No.4 in Tests at home. Only Sachin Tendulkar (138) is ahead of him.

# On the 5th ball of 44th over, Kallis and AB de Villiers completed 3000 partnership runs between them. AB de Villiers is the 3rd batsman with whom Kallis has added 3000 or more partnership runs in Test cricket. Other 2 being Hashim Amla (3923) and Gary Kirsten (3592).

# At South Africa’s score of 163/3, Kallis and AB de Villiers added 50 runs for the 4th wicket. It was Kallis’s 127th partnership of half centuries (50-99) in his Test career. He overcame Dravid and Sachin who both had 126 half century partnerships in their respective careers.

# Kallis and de Villiers, on the 1st ball of 65th over, converted their 50 run partnership into a century stand, and it was Kallis’s 69th 100+ partnership in Tests. He left Chanderpaul (68) to the 5th position and the list is being lead by Dravid (88), Sachin (86) and Ponting (85).

# On the last ball of 86th over, Kallis had aggregated 28000 partnership runs, South Africa scored 28000 runs when Kallis was at the crease since 1995. It is the 3rd highest aggregate after India with Dravid (32010) and Tendulkar (31144).

# Kallis added another 250+ partnerships in the innings, 58 with Duminy and 83 with Steyn, which summed to 128 partnerships in the range of 50-99 and 69 100+ partnerships in his Test career.

# Kallis, when he reached 80 runs, completed 7000 Test runs at Home. He became only the 3rd cricketer after Ponting (7578) and Tendulkar (7216) to reach the landmark.
