Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has said that Rohit Sharma’s record for the highest individual ODI score – 264 against Sri Lanka that he registered on November 13, 2014, at Eden Gardens – could remain unbroken for a long period of time despite the unpredictable nature of the game.

Ganguly, in his column for the Hindustan Times, writes, “It is hard to imagine someone getting 264 runs in 50 overs. Though in the game of cricket it is difficult to predict, but I have a feeling this record will stand the test of time.”

He added: “Every player goes through highs and lows and Rohit can look up to this innings for motivation in tough times. It is amazing that four double 100s have been scored in world cricket in the last four years and this is the direct effect of T20 cricket.”

Ganguly’s solution to opening conundrum

With Rohit, Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan all going great guns, opinions are divided on who should open for the team at the 2015 World Cup to be held in Australia and New Zealand. Ganguly thinks that the Indian think-tank should wait till the end of the Australian Test series, starting this December, before arriving at a decision.

He writes, “There was talk about who would open in the ODIs in Australia. I think all those questions should be put on the backburner till the tour starts. Rohit, Rahane and Dhawan are all part of the Test team and it will be best decided based on the form of these batters in those conditions.”
