Sachin Tendulkar praises Rohit Sharma for his record-breaking 264 against Sri Lanka

Rohit Sharma scored his 2nd double century in ODI cricket yesterday

Rohit Sharma scored a scintillating 264 off 173 balls against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday, as a result of which he now holds the record for the highest individual score in ODI history. By virtue of that innings, he also becomes the first cricketer to score two double hundreds in the 50-over format of the game.

Sachin Tendulkar, who was the first man to score a double hundred in ODI cricket, courtesy of his 200* against South Africa in 2010, joined in to congratulate the 27-year-old Mumbaikar, saying that he was happy for him, but couldn’t see the whole knock.

"I feel very happy for Rohit [Sharma]. I didn't get to see his innings but getting another double ton is special,” Tendulkar said.

The 41-year-old batting legend called it the best form of match practice ahead of India’s upcoming tour to Australia, where they’ll play 4 Test matches, starting in Brisbane on December 4, followed by a tri-series involving themselves, Australia and England.

“This is the perfect form of match practice and preparations before the Australian tour,” he added.

Sharma’s first double ton came against Australia at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore, where he scored an incredible 209 off 158 balls in an innings that included 12 fours and 16 sixes, last year.
