Shikhar Dhawan overtook Virat Kohli and also ended up breaking an all-time T20I record in the first T20I between India and Australia at Brisbane. Dhawan's 76 helped him overtake Kohli and claim the record for the most runs in T20Is in a calendar year.

After the first T20I, the southpaw now has 648 runs in 16 matches, breaking Kohli's record of 641, which was set in 2016. The 32-year-old has been in sensational form in T20Is in 2018, doubling his previous career-best tally of 301 in a calendar year, which was in 2016. He has scored six fifties and is averaging 40.5 and scoring at a strike rate of 145.

Only eight times has a batsman scored more than 500 T20I runs in a calendar year. Six of those occasions happened this year. Two batsmen from Pakistan and India and one apiece from Australia and New Zealand have managed that feat. Fakhar Zaman, Rohit Sharma, Babar Azam, Aaron Finch, and Colin Munro have all scored 500 T20Is runs this year.

With two more T20Is between Australia and India, Rohit, Dhawan, and Finch will all be looking to improve their tally in 2018 and Maxwell will be looking to become only the eighth batsman to score in excess of 500 T20I runs in a calendar year.
