IPL 2018: Why RCB wore green jerseys against Rajasthan Royals

Royal Challengers Bangalore players wore green jerseys in their home match against Rajasthan Royals on April 15.

The green jersey has been a part of RCB's team kit since 2011. RCB has continued this practice since 2011 to promote their “Go Green” initiative. The green jersey is to spread the message of environmental conservation and to create awareness about global warming. The franchise has also taken initiatives to plant trees and also asked their fans to travel by buses to save fuel.

This 'Go Green' initiative takes place every season, where Kohli gives a small plant to the opposition captain and the names of the players on the jerseys are replaced by their Twitter handles.

This year, RCB continued its environmental conservation efforts via social media to generate awareness by using "BRINGBACKTHEGREEN" hashtag.

During the 2016 edition, Bangalore players took the initiative forward by reaching the stadium on cycle while CNG rickshaws were arranged for fans to reach the stadium to promote the "Go Green" initiative.

In the previous years, RCB management undertook effective measures such as carpooling solutions for fans. In 2011, RCB took steps regarding carbon neutrality by encouraging school children to adopt tree samplings and individuals to use appliances like solar water heaters.

In 2012, RCB started 'Greenaissance', a campaign to improve the greenery of Banglore through participation from individuals, corporates, and communities. RCB engaged with London Olympics, the greenest Olympic games ever, and had a symbolic merchandise exchange.

In the previous seasons, initiatives to ensure sourcing of wind power during home matches and promoting fuel saving by using public transport gained momentum. On the eve of the Green match 2013, RCB became the World's First Carbon Positive Cricket Team.

A crucial leap towards saving electricity, the RCB home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy stadium is the world's first solar-powered cricket stadium. RCB has also promoted the "Swachh Bharat" campaign by cleaning surroundings and encouraging fans to do so.
