Every cricketer dreams of representing his or her country in the World Cup. The World Cup provides an excellent opportunity to all these players to make a name for themselves. A good show in the tournament can do a world of good for these players.

Having said that, the players go through an immense amount of pressure while playing in the biggest tournament in world cricket and pressure gets the better of most of the players. However, some players excel even in high-pressure situations. In World Cup 2019, we saw a huge number of World Cup first-timers who performed exceedingly well in the competition. All these players coped well with the pressure of expectations and proved their mettle on the grandest stage of all.

Here is an XI featuring the top debutants of World Cup 2019.

#Openers

Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow

One of the biggest reasons for England's success in the tournament was the strong starts given by their openers. The England opening pair of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow is arguably the most destructive opening pair in the world. Roy and Bairstow took the attack to the opposition and pushed them onto the back foot right from the very beginning.

Jonny Bairstow struggled in the initial parts of the tournament but he performed when it was needed the most. Back-to-back centuries in must-win games against India and New Zealand showed Bairstow's ability to perform in crunch games. The 30-year-old scored 532 runs in just 11 games.

England struggled in the few games that Jason Roy missed due to injury, which reiterated his importance to the England squad. Roy has been sensational at the top for England with his attacking brand of cricket. In World Cup 2019, Roy scored 443 runs at an outstanding average of 63.28 and a phenomenal strike-rate of 115.36.

Babar Azam, Nicholas Pooran

Babar Azam
Babar Azam

Babar Azam has been terrific for Pakistan in ODIs averaging more than 50 in the format and thus expectations were high from Pakistan's best batsman. Azam did not let his team down and mustered 474 runs in 8 matches at a phenomenal average of 67.71.

He also scored one century and three half centuries in the tournament and was Pakistan's highest run-getter. Unfortunately, Azam's efforts weren't enough to take Pakistan to the semi-finals.

Nicholas Pooran

All eyes were on the likes of Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope but one youngster who impressed the most from the West Indies campaign was Nicholas Pooran. Pooran scored 367 runs with an average of 52.42.

However, the most impressive part of Pooran's stats was his high strike-rate of 100.27. It's never easy to come in the middle overs and maintain such a high strike-rate but Pooran was aggressive in his approach and played some attacking knocks.

#All-rounders and Wicket-keeper

Ben Stokes, Jimmy Neesham, Alex Carey

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes demonstrated the reason he is rated so highly rated in world cricket. Stokes was absolutely brilliant for England during the entire tournament. The all-rounder scored 465 runs at a high average of 66.42 and took 7 wickets in 11 games.

Even during the time when England were struggling to win matches, Ben Stokes kept fighting. The 28-year-old played a match-winning knock in the nerve-wracking final and was adjudged the man-of-the-match.

Jimmy Neesham

Jimmy Neesham was another all-rounder who impressed a lot. Neesham has been around for a while but hasn't really done anything substantial for the Black Caps. However, he was a consistent performer, both with the bat and ball, in World Cup 2019. Neesham amassed 258 runs and picked up 15 wickets in 10 games.

While he chipped in with crucial wickets with the ball, he played some useful cameos in the lower-middle order. He almost won the game for New Zealand in the finals, too.

Alex Carey
Alex Carey

Alex Carey got Australia out of trouble on numerous occasions in the tournament. In most of the matches, Carey arrived at the crease with Australia in dire straits, but the wicket-keeper batsman mixed caution with aggression and got Australia back in the game.

He looked technically sound and seems to have the right temperament to excel in international cricket. Carey finished with 375 runs in 10 games at an average of 62.50.

#Bowlers

Jofra Archer, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Lockie Ferguson Jasprit Bumrah

Jofra Archer lived up to all the hype he created before the World Cup. The 24-year-old picked up 20 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 24.55. Archer bowled with superb control and did not give anything away to the batsmen at his economy of 4.77.

He was Morgan's go-to bowlers throughout the tournament and ended as England's highest wicket-taker.

Shaheen Shah Afridi

Pakistan will regret not giving young Shaheen Shah Afridi more chances. The left-arm seamer took 16 wickets in just 5 games at a jaw-dropping average of 14.62 and an excellent economy of 4.96.

Unfortunately, his inclusion proved to be a little late as Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals. Nonetheless, Shaheen is certainly one for the future for Pakistan.

Lockie Ferguson
Lockie Ferguson

Lockie Ferguson troubled the opposition batsmen with raw pace. The Kiwi speedster often touched the speed of 149 kph. Interestingly, New Zealand did not use Ferguson with the new ball but he still managed to pick the number of wickets that he did.

Ferguson ended World Cup 2019 in the second position with 21 scalps on the list of leading wicket-takers of the tournament.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah stamped his authority as the number one ranked ODI bowler with a superlative performance in World Cup 2019. Bumrah was equally effective with the new ball as well in the death.

The Mumbai Indians bowler made life difficult for the opposition batsmen as he bowled at an economy of 4.41 runs per over. His pinpoint yorkers and variations in the death overs were a major reason why opposition teams failed to score quick runs. Bumrah took 18 wickets in the tournament.
