An unbeaten New Zealand side will take on a resurgent South African squad on Wednesday, June 19th at Edgbaston, Birmingham for match 25 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

The Kiwis haven't been seen in action for quite some time with their clash against India at Tren Bridge being washed out by the relentless rains. South Africa meanwhile got their first win of the campaign by coming out all guns blazing against a hapless Afghanistan side and will want to keep the momentum going and push for an unlikely playoffs spot.

South Africa will be boosted by the return of ace speedster Lungi Ngidi from a hamstring injury while the Kiwis don't have any injury concerns.

An important encounter for both teams for different reasons, let's take a look at who has the edge ahead of this encounter.

If New Zealand bat first

New Zealand's top order has been firing pretty well in the tournament with Colin Munro providing able support to the class of Martin Guptill. While they do have a strong South African bowling attack to face, the likes of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor will be kicking to get some action after a washout and a couple of easy wins.

New Zealand have enough firepower with the bat to make a total of around 320-340 runs at a decent Edgbaston track and defend it with their clinical bowling attack.

If South Africa bat first

The Proteas showed their class with the bat in their last game, making an easy meal of the small target given to them by the Afghans. With Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla finally firing in unison, the Proteas are well set to negotiate the strong Kiwi pace attack. Faf Du Plessis will be the key in the top order while David Miller will want to give a thumping finish to the innings.

South Africa have what it takes to win this match and a score of around 310-330 can be expected from the side and their bowling attack will be on their toes to defend it.

Who will win?

New Zealand have certainly had the better tournament but South Africa seem to be brimming with form and their confidence, unpredictability and firepower in their bowling gives them an edge ahead of this clash. Expect South Africa to stun the Kiwis and win the encounter.
