The cricketing universe considers the Cricket World Cup to be the grandest stage for a player to showcase his talent. As it is every cricketer's dream to represent his nation at the World Cup, the players who make it to the squad try to give their best to the team.

A plethora of youngsters have transformed themselves into legends on the back of their impressive showing in the World Cup. Players like Sachin Tendulkar, Glenn McGrath, Ricky Ponting, Kapil Dev, Imran Khan, Sir Vivian Richards and many more have become immortal because of their performances at the mega-event.

The hosts, England won the 2019 World Cup after a nail-biting finale with New Zealand. The English batsmen had played a key role in the team's success in this tournament. Though the conditions in England favoured the bowlers, the batsmen dominated the bowlers on flat tracks.

Afghanistan's top-order batsman, Rahmat Shah emerged as the highest run-scorer of his team. The Blue Tigers did not win a single match in the 2019 World Cup but they won the hearts of the fans with their performance against Pakistan and India. The Afghan bowlers did a commendable job for the team however, the batsmen let the team down.

The fact that the team's top run-scorer aggregated only 254 runs in the tournament proves the aforementioned statement. Shah played with a slow strike rate of 65.14 and could register only one half-century in the tournament. He slammed 31 boundaries and a maximum in the 9 matches he played.


#9 Kusal Perera - Sri Lanka

Widely known as the next Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka, left-handed opener Kusal Perera shone with the bat for The Islanders in the 2019 World Cup. Though Sri Lanka could play only 7 matches in the tourney, Perera scored 273 runs at a magnificent average of 39.

His strike rate of 110.97 proved to be the icing on the cake. Opening the innings with captain Dimuth Karunaratne, Perera hit 3 half-centuries in the tournament. His highest score of 78 came in the match against Afghanistan.

The wicket-keeper batsman of the Men in Maroon, Nicholas Pooran led the batting line up of his team with some flamboyant performances in the 2019 World Cup. With the likes of Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Evin Lewis and Shai Hope present in the team, youngster Nicholas Pooran surprised everyone by outperforming his teammates.

The left-handed batsman hit 1 hundred and 2 fifties in the World Cup. He registered his best score of 118 against Sri Lanka.

When all of his teammates could not develop any consistency, Du Plessis fought like a lone warrior for the rainbow nation. He saved his best for the last match as his lone century of the tourney came in the match against Australia.

One of the most promising talents in international cricket at the moment, Babar Azam showcased his class the 2019 World Cup. Azam scored 474 runs for Pakistan at a superb average of 67.71. He recorded a century against the best bowling attack of the tournament, New Zealand.

Besides, Azam also scored 2 fifties in the tourney where he batted at a strike rate of 87.78.


#5 Joe Root - England

The fact that the highest run-scorer of the champions holds the 5th position on this list shows that England's batsmen fired in unison. A new match-winner emerged for the team in every game. The right-handed batsman, Joe Root was the most consistent among all as he finished with 556 runs in 11 innings.

The 2019 World Cup winner scored 2 hundreds and 3 half-centuries for the hosts. Though Ben Stokes and Jason Roy had a better average than Root, the Test captain of England proved to be the backbone of the batting line-up.

The surprise performer of the 2019 World Cup, Shakib Al Hasan earned the respect of every cricket fan with his marvellous performances in the tournament. The left-handed batsman carried the entire Bangladeshi batting line-up on his shoulders by aggregating 606 runs in just 8 innings.

Shakib joined the elite list of individuals who have scored over 600 runs in a single edition of the World Cup. His 2 centuries and 5 half tons proved Shakib as a real match-winner.

Besides registering 3 hundreds and 3 fifties in the World Cup, Warner also held the record of the highest individual score (166) of the tourney.

Indian opener, Rohit Sharma took the honors of being the highest run scorer of the 2019 World Cup after edging David Warner by a margin of just one run. Sharma created a new World Cup record by slamming 5 centuries in the 2019 World Cup. His hundreds against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Pakistan helped India win those matches however, Rohit's century against England went in vain.

Though the Hitman shone the brightest in the group stage, his World Cup campaign came to a disappointing end in the semi-final game, where he scored just one run. Nevertheless, the Mumbai-based batsman still came out as the best batsman of ICC World Cup 2019.
