Yuvraj Singh – Time to strike again!

So, 30^th September 2013 has proved to be a big boon for the millions of fans of Yuvraj Singh. In fact, many of us were waiting for the moment anxiously with our fingers crossed.

One of the prestigious newspapers – Hindustan Times had predicted in today’s edition that Yuvraj’s comeback for the Australian series was certain. It had further emphasized that Yuvi has played a few good innings against West Indies A while playing for India A. The paper highlighted that in the challenger trophy also, Yuvraj had maintained his form pretty well.

Ultimately, the above prediction proved true. The prayers of millions were finally answered. Yuvraj has made a stunning comeback to the Indian team. In my opinion, this was a very legitimate decision. His services are really needed in the middle order.

Although not many changes were expected, since the team had won the champions trophy followed by the Tri series in West Indies. But, the selectors have opted for a few worthwhile replacements. The selectors have certainly been impressed by the way Yuvraj has exhibited his batting skills in India A’s matches and thereafter in the challenger trophy.

There have been no major changes in the core batting line up. Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, and MS Dhoni’s selection was inevitable. Yuvraj will be the sixth specialist batsman in the team. Yuvraj’s rich experience of about 13 years at the international level can really prove handy. Prior to his return, Karthik was there in the middle order, but did not deliver as per the expectations.

In the case of Yuvraj, he had given the massage loud and clear through his bat. Have a look at his scores in the last few innings – 123, 40, 61, 52 and 84. Even though in the last match he could only score 29 runs, still he averages 64.50 in the last six innings. This is despite the fact that he will be completing 32 years in December this year.

Even otherwise, Yuvraj is so passionate about the game that he went to France to attend fitness sessions conducted by famous trainer Tim Exeta. He has already proved that he is a brave fighter off and on the field. His bold stroke play is spectacular, and he has played many match winning roles for India under difficult circumstances.

Another aspect which might have played a key role in Yuvraj’s selection would have been his bowling skills. On Indian pitches, Yuvi’s slow left arm spin could be difficult to negotiate for the Aussies.

Although I foresee that Yuvraj has only 2-3 years ahead of him in his career, but I still believe he deserves this chance. Given his commitment to the game and his recent performances, he could still play a key role for India. The way he has led his team in the Challenger trophy, it seems he has got his confidence back. His team posted 274 in the final, and it was enough to lift the trophy.

We really hope that Yuvraj performs well in the upcoming series and cements his place in the team. This would certainly help the Indian team in the long run. Welcome back prince!
