Deborah wins gold in first day of Track Asia Cup

New Delhi, Nov 21 The girl from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Deborah, won the 500 metre time trial gold in women's elite section on the opening day of the Track Asia Cup 2014 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium complex velodrome on Friday.

She clocked 37.250 seconds for the distance winning comfortably ahead of silver medallist Tatyana Zadenepryanova of Kazakhstan and bronze medal winner Parul Akhtar of Bangladesh.

The Kazakh girl timed 40 seconds while Akhtar clocked 45.600 seconds.

The hosts grabbed one silver and four bronze medals apart from Deborah's gold during the day.

But that was the lone bright spot for the Indians on the day, as in the five other finals, Hong Kong riders grabbed three gold medals in men’s elite 1km time trial, women elite points race and in men Jjnior's 1km time trial.

Kazakhstan's Magomed Mamedov claimed gold in men's elite points race while Thailand's Sarintip Diow-Archakun topped in junior women's 500m time event.

India's Rutuja Satpute and Parvathy V.G. finished second and third, respectively, in the women's elite points race in which Hong Kong's Wong Wan Yiu Jaime won gold.

Amrit Singh won bronze in men's elite 1km time trial.

India bagged a bronze in men's junior 1km time trial by Krishna Naikodi and 500m time trial bronze by Raj V.P. Sona in the women's junior section.
