Hero MTB Himalaya: Luis Pinto emerges victorious on day 6 after conquering Jalori Pass

Pinto was dominant yet again

As the 53 riders maneuvered through the tough uphills from Kandu Ghai, Paneo, Jalori Pass and finally the pit stop at Gada Gushaini, Luis Leao Pinto emerged victorious yet agan on Day 6. Ahead of the trailing riders by a minute, Luis Pinto was the first rider to arrive at Jalori Pass.

Day 6 – ‘Conquest of the Garh’ is considered to be one of the toughest days of the race. A steep seventy degree elevation leads the riders to the highest point of the race at 3150 m. Even the most seasoned riders were exhausted after the tough climb through slush and dirt tracks. The race gets tougher hen the riders take a steep descent for about 12 kilometres until they reach the small village of Jibbhi. Thereafter, the route is uphill all the way till Gada Gushaini.

Andi Seewald finished the race in second position a minute later after Luis Leao Pinto with Pau Zamora in the third position. Catherine Williamson was the first woman rider to arrive at Jalori Pass in the 11th position.

As part of the UN Global Goals program, Luis Leao Pinto, the King of Himalayas hoisted the Quality Education flag at a point 10,000 feet above sea level. Hero MTB Himalaya has partnered with UN to deliver the UN Global Goal of Quality Education to some of the worlds hardest to reach communities by international riders. Luis Pinto has also interacted with young students in villages across the race route.

Reimund Dietzen won the Master’s category finishing in fifth place, just 30 minutes behind Luis Leao Pinto. The veteran pro-rider has been amongst the top 5 riders since the flag off of the race except on Day 3 here Vanni Balboni grabbed the first position in the Master’s category. Catherine Williamson has been the undefeated leader in the Women’s category followed by Ilda Periera. Ajay Pandit Chhetri and Buddhi Bahadur Tamang are the champs in the Team of Two category.
