Football and Gaming have been in an inseparable tryst for decades

Football and Gaming together provides a delightful combination for fans and gamers. From AAA titles such as EA Sports' FIFA and Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer, footballing video games have redefined the way people look at the beautiful game.

Long gone are the days when football was restricted to weekend matches. In the modern era, the beautiful game has taken up a more dynamic role in our lives.

Attracting numerous new followers to the sport, the video games provide an elegant platform for people associated with the sport to express their talents and skills. Let's take a look at some of the finest football video games ever released (in no particular order):

Pro Evolution Soccer (Winning Eleven)

Konami's take to combat EA's superiority over the sports video game market, Pro Evolution Soccer, is one of the best-selling games that the franchise has ever had, managing to sell over 50 million copies since being first released 2001.

With arguably a better graphical performance than it's market rival from EA, PES is a visual experience that uses Konami's technical superiority to deliver a stunning graphical treat.

The latest edition, PES 2018 is the 17th installment in the ever-expanding gaming franchise and has grabbed up a decent score of 9.2 out of a maximum 10 from IGN. The franchise was released under the label of Winning Eleven in Japan.

However, Pro Evolution Soccer has been criticised for lacking licensed players, kits, stadiums and leagues due to EA's official licensing with FIFA.

Sensible Soccer

Although it is an old game, Sensible Soccer has a loyal fan base.
Although it is an old game, Sensible Soccer has a loyal fan base.

Backed with a cult following, the video game released and developed by Sensible Software in the early 1990s. Featuring a zoomed-out bird's eye view, the game made it into Amiga Power's list of Top 100 Video Games of all time.

The game was a remarkable stepping-stone in the history of sporting video games, as it astoundingly encompassed the whole world of professional association football into one single game. A 3D Remake of the phenomenal game was released in 2006 for XBOX, PlayStation 2 and PC.

A new and improved successor to Sensible Soccer, titled Sociable Soccer is currently under development amidst an unsuccessful crowdfunding campaign following its reveal of its early version for the PC, Mobile devices, and Virtual Reality devices.

25 years have passed since it's release but the game has managed to settle for a loyal fan base who are still nostalgic about the video game and its historic aftertouch feature, which was first released for Amiga, Atari ST, and the PC.

Now overlapped by EA's more promising mainstream FIFA campaign, the online-only version of the game remains popular in numerous regions of Asia. Big name tournaments and championships have carried on the Online version's server after the previous version was discontinued by the video game giant following a poor reception.

Using FIFA 13's Impact Engine, the online version provides significant graphics on a low size and offers tons of game-modes for the users, ranging from league modes to online match-ups.

The game is currently officially available for players of various regions but gamers from other regions can enjoy the experiences via the servers of these permitted regions through portals like Garena.

FIFA Online is, as of now, a free-to-play MMO and can be downloaded from the official site of its distributors depending upon the location of the user for no costs at all.

The FIFA series is one of the most famous franchises for worldwide tournaments.

Cashing in revenues for over a 100 million copies, the video game franchise is the highest grossing sport-based series of all-time. Releasing every year on various platforms, the series arguably boasts the most elegant graphical experience of all time. EA introduced the first edition of the video game in 1993 when the market was already owned by heavyweight sporting games.

From motion sensing and capturing data from several superstars to licensed teams, kits, and stadiums, the FIFA series provides the biggest stage for gamers to flaunt their skills with accurate mechanics and real-world physics.

Since it's inception, the game has been released annually, and has received an official license from FIFA, making it the most famous video game based on football.

The new Frostbite 3 engine, which was introduced in FIFA 18 provided ample opportunities for the developers to fine tune the graphics and gameplay of the AAA title.

A series of English-based football managerial games, the franchise was first released in 1992 by developers Collyer Brothers, setting sales record in the late 20th century, the simulation game. The game's last full version came in the start of the decade followed by an iOS-based game under the same name in 2011, which makes it one of the few mobile-based soccer games to be focused on the managerial aspect of the sport in-depth.

The Championship Manager series has been revived only recently by gaming studio Square Enix, which now releases the game under the name of Champ Man for mobile-based platforms.
