The Mid role in dota has always been one of the most important and contested roles of the game. The Mid role, which is often called Pos 2 or Position 2 has a huge part to play in the dota 2. Middle lane heroes control the game in many different ways. Usually, Position 2 has the highest XP in the game, resulting in higher levels compared to other heroes which gives them the potential to change the picture of the game in the early phases.

Mid controls the tempo of the game and can act as a catalyst in one team’s win over the other. From ganking the side lanes to split pushing, from solo killing to anchoring team fights, Mid laner has to do it all. It is a position of fame but comes with some serious responsibility. Every major patch has some effect on the heroes which are popular in the middle lane, the current patch also has some terrific heroes which can help you win and raise your MMR. We will discuss some of those heroes here.

#1 Ember Spirit

There is absolutely no doubt that Ember is one of the best heroes in this patch. The hero is extremely versatile and can be played with multiple builds and different lanes. However, he makes the most of the mid lane. Ember is a highly level dependent hero which is the only demanding factor about this core. He has a strong lane presence thanks to Flame Guard which cuts down magic damage and Sleight of Fist which acts as a dodging ability. The Sleight of Fist also damages the enemy but it is noteworthy that it has a very low damage output in the early stages of the game and is mainly used as a defensive ability.

Ember has incredible ability to farm fast and be in team fights at the same time. He has his ultimate ability Fire Remnant, which helps him to be more mobile around the map. Using Ember’s ultimate in different situations is the key for gaining MMR with this hero. He can solo kill heroes and can apply pressure on various parts of the map, opening up space.

#2 Outworld Devourer

Outworld Devourer or as we commonly call him OD had crept in to the meta long ago when the major patch v7.22 hit the dota world. The changes to his ability, Equilibrium grants him percentage based passive mana steal for the damage he does. This has made OD a really great hero in the early game and also allows him to scale even better in the late game.

Outworld Devourer is a great laner and loves to team fight with his set of abilities. The hero comes on really fast in the game and can contribute a lot in small fights which increases the team’s winning probability. He has his ultimate Sanity Eclipse which is a fight changing ability and can completely destroy multiple heroes. OD requires items like two sets of Null Talisman, Power Treads and a Force Staff to engage in fights. Later, one can build items such as Hex, BKB, and a Sheep-Stick to dominate the late game.

#3 Templar Assassin

Templar was coming into the meta slowly even before the release of the major patch v7.22. However, the scepter bonus which was introduced in the 7.22 patch really gave Templar a whole new way of playing the hero. The ability Prisonic Projection allows you to teleport on a Prisonic Trap instantly and the best part of it is that it does not break Meld which gives a ton lot of damage to TA. The hero already had a huge lane presence thanks to Psi Blades and Refraction but now she can come out of nowhere and snipe enemies with her burst physical damage.

Templar can engage in team fights even with limited items. The hero farms really fast and can clear waves and ancients extremely quickly, giving her items like Desolator and Blink Dagger very early in the game. Once with her basic core items, TA melts heroes like butter. The hero annihilates supports in one or two shots and makes big contributions in team fights and objective taking.

#4 Windranger

Windranger was getting a series of little buffs in patches before 7.22 but what really affected Windranger was her scepter rework in patch v7.22. Adding 2 charges to Windrun and increasing the movement speed by 45% has pretty much made her overpowering. The hero has a balanced lane presence and good mobility and escape to help in team fights and push different lanes. She has a great stock of nuke and physical damage with her Powershot and ultimate abilities.

Windranger gets invisibility from Windrun talent in her talent tree which coupled with scepter makes her a solo killing machine in the mid to late game phase. The ability to get solo pick offs and push for objectives makes her a pain to deal with for the enemy team. Maelstrom. Phase Boots/ Treads and two Null Talismans are great early to mid game items. Getting a BKB against a heavy magic damage lineup is a must coupled with scepter and physical damage items like MKB or Daedalus.
