Far Cry New Dawn Review: A Rather Beautiful Game Than Something New or Innovative

Far Cry New Dawn
Far Cry New Dawn

Like its predecessors the latest installment in Far Cry series, New Dawn once again plummets player to the vibrant and vivid post-apocalyptic world of Far Cry.

The old tradition of the series of showcasing the main protagonist and the antagonist is not the most appropriate way but still goes on in Far Cry New Dawn.

The players will partake the role of Captain of Security of a group of people who provide help in rebuilding a community, after the events of the Nuclear War which almost destroyed the world. Yet created a more vivid and vibrant one.

At the beginning of the game, the player and his group along with Carmina Rye are attacked by Highwaymen. A new threat to Hope County who are ruled by twins born in the apocalyptic world, "Mickey and Lou".

Alike its predecessors, Far Cry New Dawn prompts the player to escape the scene with the survivors while being besieged with enemies.

In this context the "Highwaymen along with Mickey & Lou". Things not always go well in a Far Cry series, while on the verge of being killed or most probably being captured by the twins. The player is pushed down a waterfall by one of his subordinate in order to survive. Soon after that, the player is saved by Carmina Rye and then both make their way towards Hope County.

Reaching Hope County you join a group of survivors led by Carmina's mother Kim Rye trying to rebuild a community.

From there on you embark on a journey to make prosperity(your home base) a well-developed community, to act as hope for people in rebuilding the apocalyptic world.

NOTE: (SPOILER WARNING) Though the Review is spoiler free the below para discusses a little about the intro of Far Cry New Dawn. Skip to para 3 if you don't want any spoilers.

A Vivid and Vibrant World Full With Diversity

The colourful world of Far Cry New Dawn is full of different life forms. Unlike its predecessor,s Far Cry New Dawn offers a wide variety of flora and fauna, even after the Nuclear War the diversity is still there, even more than before.

The world of Far Cry New Dawn is rewarding in every aspect. There is a wide variety of collectibles, crafting materials, perks and other things waiting to be collected.

Exploring the world of Far Cry New Dawn will reward you with story lore, backstory text and letters portraying what happened to Hope County and its people.

There are treasure hunts where after solving the given situation you are rewarded with high quality crafting materials and loots. The post-apocalyptic world of Far Cry New Dawn lacks innovation, Its feels more like a rip-off version of hope county.

Same Old Quests Evoking Nostalgia

Far Cry New Dawn evokes the feeling of nostalgia
Far Cry New Dawn evokes the feeling of nostalgia

From the beginning of the game, Far Cry New Dawn evokes the feeling of nostalgia. Alike other Far Cry games, it is introduced with the player first being captured and then thrown or pushed into a river, which ends the intro.

You will get tons of similar quests like you get to see with the predecessors of Far Cry New Dawn.

The Story of Far Cry New Dawn is okay but not as great as Far Cry 3. The only things about the story which excited me the most was meeting the old characters from Far Cry 5 or references to them.

There are ample amount of random encounters which will sway you from doing the story missions. You can still liberate outposts solo or with a friend which will reward you with Ethanol, which can be used to upgrade different facilities in prosperity.

Expeditions Feel More Superior Than Other Quests

For the first time in the series, we have a Far Cry game which will take you off the map to different locations to complete quests namely, "Expeditions" which can be done for rare loot and other things.

Expeditions in Far Cry New Dawn appear to be more challenging than the actual game story missions.

In Expeditions, player ventures out of Hope County to complete respective missions rewarding rare loot which can be used for upgrading prosperity or your weapons. Overall addition of Expeditions in Far Cry New Dawn serve as a plus point for the game.

RPG Elements and Enemy AI Work as Icing on The Cake

The new crafting system along with base upgrade will provide you with a better chance to survive the vibrant post-apocalyptic world of Far Cry New Dawn
The new crafting system along with base upgrade will provide you with a better chance to survive the vibrant post-apocalyptic world of Far Cry New Dawn

Far Cry New Dawn takes the little inclusion of RPG elements in previous games to the next level.

The new crafting system along with base upgrade will provide you with a better chance to survive the vibrant post-apocalyptic world of Far Cry New Dawn. The enemies now come with different health bars and so does every other living thing in the game.

There are still different herbs and plants which can be used to give you an upper hand on a battle.

Crafting new vehicles will let you travel far distances in a short time, while armoured vehicles with mounts can be used as an offensive option.

The one thing I like most about Far Cry New Dawn was its Enemy AI. The enemies in Far Cry New Dawn are responsive and smart.

They will knock you down while you are reloading your gun. They throw smoke bombs in order to make an escape.

If you encounter an enemy while driving they will chase you down until you kill them, and trust me they do a lot of damage. There are other certain small details regarding the enemies and it's AI that makes a fight more engaging and interesting.

The Pink Version of Hope County will Mesmerize You With Its Beauty

Far Cry New Dawn graphics are phenomenal, the small details like the dry soil blowing off with the wind or the destructible environment feel more realistic than ever.

In terms of graphics, music, and score Far Cry New Dawn is as great as some of its predecessors. The game is highly optimized and it was rare to find a bug or glitch.

Like the Expeditions and the RPG elements in Far Cry New Dawn graphics and gameplay are also up to mark. At the same time, most of the characters in Far Cry New Dawn are undeveloped or simply boring.

VERDICT

Far Cry New Dawn
Far Cry New Dawn

Far Cry New Dawn introduces a rip-off and short version Hope County with a more diverse and vibrant environment.

The world of Far Cry New Dawn is rewarding and full with collectables, whether it is the raw materials, plants, animal remains or the lore that comes in the form of a cassette, letters etc.

The RPG elements in the game along with the smart enemy AI is something Ubisoft did a great job in implementing. The few expedition missions are more rewarding and will keep you engaged than the actual missions.

At the same time, Far Cry New Dawn lacks innovation, has a story which is okay but not that great. The main antagonists also lack the sheer amount of craziness and unique personality that we expect from a Far Cry game.

Far Cry New Dawn is almost similar to Far Cry 5, it fails to provide a unique post-apocalyptic environment that we have seen in other games. Far Cry New Dawn gameplay mechanics are also similar to its predecessor.

"Far Cry New Dawn is a game whose bewitching graphics will encourage you for exploration. The game plays good and has a lot of quests and other things which are more fun to do with a plus one. Although the lack of innovation is something that leads the game to a nosedive".

REVIEW SCORE:- 7.8/10
