Sony Online Entertainment’s recently launched H1Z1 on the Steams’s Early Access platform. But it looks like the players are annoyed since they are facing a number of connectivity issues on the first day itself. Like all the Early Access titles of the Steam, this game is also incomplete and is currently under development. But Sony is offering ways to the play the game early. They have introduced two versions of the game, which are listed and explained below.
- First is the “Standard Version” which includes the Early Access, Event Tickets to be used for special server access, Crates, and Crate Keys for $19.99.
- Second is the “Premium Version” which includes a controversial Airdrop Item and is available at a price of $39.99.
The game launched today, and today itself the game started showing connectivity problems. The players who brought the game and tried running it are facing the Game Error G99. This is the issue where you can’t log in and you are shown a message to try again later. Sony has raised a voice of concern stating that they are aware of the problem and that the engineers are working on it.
Apart from connectivity issues, the game is also facing problem in it’s “Pay to win” mechanics. The airdrops include the items that are needed in the times of emergency like first aid, medicines, ammunition and guns which could give the player an advantage over the other players who are trying to survive. This goes in the face of what SOE had been saying their design philosophy for the game was, and that was to offer items that were cosmetic in nature. So this would actually upset the player because to survive in the game he has to purchase the needful amenities, which means that the players have to pay for virtual goods. It sounds like the system is favoring the player who actually purchases the item.
