League of Legends: LoL Game Modes

League of Legends has three permanent maps which are Summoner's Rift, Howling Abyss, and The Twisted Treeline. All three modes have a different flavor and are gives a different experience when played. According to Riot "League of Legends offers a number of different maps for you to conquer. These battlegrounds, or "Fields of Justice," each feature different terrain, objectives and victory conditions, as well as varied summoner spells and items."

Summoner's Rift

Summoner Rift is the most played mode out of all. It consists of a battleground divided into two identical halves. There are three lanes present called Top lane, Middle lane and Bottom lane. These lanes are connected by each by Jungle. The Jungle consists of Neutral Monsters which can be slain to get temporary or permanent buffs. There are three turrets in each lane on either side. The Nexus is the heart of the game and is present on either side and the team which succeeds in destroying other team's nexus first marches towards victory.

Dragon: It's a mythical creature that spawns in the bottom side River. There are a total of 5 dragons in the game. Slaying each one Grants a permanent buff with the exception of Elder Drake which grants a temporary buff.

The drake are as follows:

Infernal Drake: Gain bonus ability power and attack Damage.

Mountain Drake: Gain bonus damage to structures and jungle monsters.

Cloud Drake: Gain bonus movement speed.

Ocean Drake: Gain bonus regeneration.

Elder Drake: Increases the buff of normal drakes by 50% and gives bonus true damage depending upon the number of base dragons slain(temporary).

Baron Nashor: It's a large monster on a lair residing up on the top side river. Slaying Baron Nashor is pretty hard but if it is slain it grants huge buffs. It gives bonus AD and AP which lasts up to three minutes.

Howling Abyss

Howling Abyss is the birthplace of a very famous featured game mode All Random All mid. (ARAM) Both the team has 5 players on each side in a single lane. The game is fast paced and promotes skirmishes more. You cannot go to the base to purchase an item or regen your health or mana. The lane consists of two turrets and a single inhibitor on either side.

Apart from being single lane, Howling Abyss is fast paced and full of kills. The option of going back to base and regening your health or ability to purchase items(not until you die) being removed forces summoners to play more aggressively.

Healing Buffs:

You can pick up Healing Buffs which can be found on the ground on a regular interval. By picking up these summoners can regen both health and Mana. It is used to compensate for the inability to go to base and regen health.

Howling Abyss has also additional items exclusive to the game mode.

Twisted Tree Line

Twisted Tree Line is the smaller version of Summoners Rift. The map consists of two lanes and the jungle in the middle. The lanes are shorter which allows summoners to push faster.

Similar to summoners rift the objective of the mode is to push the lanes and destroy the enemy nexus. Each team consists of three players instead of Five. There are two turrets in each lane on either side. The Nexus is defended by a single turret.

Jungle:

The jungle is the middle part between the two lanes. There are multiple entrances and exits connecting lanes to jungle promoting a more aggressive play style. apart from this jungle consist of neutral monster and Altars.

Altars:

There are two checkpoints on the map which are known as Altars. Standing on top of them for a few seconds leads to gaining control of it. Gaining control of one Altar grants addition gold on each minion kill. Gaining control of both Altars grants bonus AD and AP. Capturing both Altars locks them for a period of time.

Vilemaw:

The big spider looking neutral monster is the toughest out there. Slaying the monster grants additional gold, bonus attack speed, cooldown reduction, health and mana regeneration.

Twisted Treeline also has additional items exclusive to the map.
