Yesterday Sony confirmed through it's PlayStation Blog, something that we had never ever expected to happen, that they won't be holding a traditional press conference at the E3 trade show next year.
They further went down to confirm that they won't be having any kind of presence in and around E3 next year during the summer.
So where does this leave all PlayStation fans like me? Also remember it's the first time in 24 years since the E3 conference was held for the first time in 1995, that Sony won't be attending the trade show.
As a gamer personally I think Sony just created a huge void because people like me have grown to look forward to that one time in the year where every major gaming publisher and developers would accumulate at a place to reveal new and exciting video games and hardware.

Sony being the most popular and fan favourite of them all, it is a major blow to all of us, given that they cancelled the PSX event of this year as well.
That means either Sony is entirely done with these huge events and would rather give out information via their blog and social networking pages or they are holding back information for a major reveal at the PSX 2019 or even further down the line like E3 2020. I personally think the latter is the case with many people probably agreeing with me.
Now before I even get into the PS5 rumours or speculations, let me point this out again that we still have 4 major AAA exclusive games yet to be released on the PS4 which you all already know:- Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last Of Us Part 2 and Days Gone, with only the latter having a confirmed release date as of now.
Until and unless all of these games are released on PS4, Sony won't even think about launching a new console on the market.
We all know the impact these 3 games have on the market and Sony wouldn't like to spoil their sales if they release PS5 before releasing them. I mean c'mon who in the right mind would buy a new console when the coolest games are still coming to the PS4?
That being said, a Reddit user known as RuthenicCookie was the first to leak that Sony is going to cancel their e3 2019 plans, just a day before Sony actually did it.
He further went on to state that the following-
PS experience returning, Most devs already have dev kits for ps5 ( Spoiler: It’s a monster), Sony prepping hard for ps5 and one of the reason for no e3 next year because they blew all their load this year and got nothing new to show next year (They want to show new stuff at psx)
This is sort of true, Sony did show everything they have been working on, and it would make absolutely no sense seeing a cryptic Death Stranding trailer for the fourth time in a row without a release date or a release window.
So yes, it's actually safe to assume that it was a good decision for Sony to not attend E3.
But the other news in which he states that Sony will announce PS5 next fall during their PSX event is something I highly doubt.
You see if they announce it during the fall next year, that makes a one huge year of a gap before the console actually launches in 2020.
That probably won't affect the PS5's launch but will definitely kill the PS4 sales.
Why would someone buy a PS4 when a new console is just months away?
I rather think Sony will likely try and minimise the gap as much as possible between the announcement and the launch of the next PlayStation so as to not damage PS4's momentum moving forward.
Also if they rather still insists on announcing the PS5 at PSX next year then it either means that Death Stranding, The Last Of Us part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima would have been released by then or they will have some rather good justification to give as to why these games are cross-platform titles and the difference between the PS4 version and the PS5 version of these games is big enough for people to shift.
Sony is yet to comment more regarding this entire situation. My safest bet would be The Game Awards 2018 which is being held on 7th December.
