The Most Anticipated VR Games of 2019

Virtual Reality, or VR as they call it in short, is a growing technology that a few decades ago we thought would only exist in sci-fi movies. Well, it is very much a reality today and the consumers market seems to be growing hungry for it.

We are living in an era of exponential technology growth. The use of VR has found a home not only with games but also in other entertainment industries.

The number of VR users on Steam has increased by double in 2018. Though it is not a very big number overall and the share of the users using VR tech and playing VR games is very small compared to the number of overall Steam users.

Nonetheless, the technology seems to be growing in demand. It is a bit expensive at the moment and relatively young. It is not perfect by any means but VR games have been a very enjoyable experience. Games like Beat Saber, Transference, Skyrim VR and more have shown what an immersive experience they can be.

The most popular gear for VR is currently Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Sony's PlayStation is also a big competitor in the market with PlayStation VR (PSVR in short) released 2 years ago and selling more than 3 million units worldwide.

So let us take a look at the best games for VR across all platforms in 2019. A lot of these games do not have a fixed release date yet, but we can expect to see them.

#5 Population: One

Developer: BigBox VR

Platform: Rift, Vive, Windows Mixed Reality

Release date: 2019

Population: One is an upcoming Battle Royale game for the VR. You are probably already sick of the oversaturated Battle Royale market with so many of the good ones available already. VR does not have any standout Battle Royale games yet though.

The game seems interesting because you can build structures (just like Fortnite) but you can also build jetpacks, fling yourself off buildings and use a glider to glide away from danger. It does look like a lot of fun, so hopefully, this is the immersive Battle Royale we need.

#4 Lone Echo II

Developer: Ready at Dawn

Platform: Oculus Rift

Release date: 2019

After their successful titles, Lone Echo and Echo Arena, developers Ready at Dawn are back at it with an immersive VR experience to offer. Lone Echo II features the return of protagonists Jack and Liv from the first game.

Players must venture through the loneliness of space while discovering different alien species for your own research. We can't quite go to space here in reality but with Lone Echo II, you can venture into deep space with this immersive game.

Borderlands 2 was one of the best games to release on PC this decade. It's unique world and story and multiplayer co-op made it a smash hit among many players. And they're going VR!

Borderlands 2 VR is already available on PSVR. We have yet to receive confirmation on if it will be available on other VR platforms. Lovers of the original release will definitely want to pick this game up.

#1 Defector

Developer: Twisted Pixel

Platform: Oculus Rift

Release date: TBA

Defector is one of the most exciting VR titles that is yet to be released. The game is basically the closest thing a person can experience to living inside a James Bond movie. This spy thriller game is packed with action, where you can jump on airplanes, commit espionage and shoot up your enemies in the most stylish way.

The game was supposed to release in 2018. Though it has not been given a date, we can anticipate a release sometime this year. Hopefully, the developers are working on making this game polished and developing the best kind of adventures.
