A trip down the nostalgic 'gaming' town

Sit in the corner, try not to cry. Cry a lot. That is all that I have to say when I see the games that once helped me relax during my childhood in the late 90s. As an adult, I am not ashamed to admit that I would pay more to play 'Roadrash' again than play the latest game in the market. Countless hours of getting yelled at by your parents and yet you continued to play the game. Your sibling coming up to you and asking for some time on the computer but you refuse to give it to him/her. Developers had a way to keep us mesmerized with the graphics, an immersive storyline and the beautifully crafted gameplay as a whole. It surprises me that even today when we have ultra-realistic games where you can mistake the non-player character (NPC) to be a real human being, these classic games are still sought after.

In the upcoming slides, I would like to take you on a trip down memory lane we explore and witness the sheer beauty that these 5 masterpieces possess.

#5 Road Rash (1991)

I have mentioned this one before and I do so again. Who can forget kicking and punching people while riding a bike at 160kmph? Is it just me? Or do you hear the intro music play too? Say hello to Roadrash.

A game so simple and yet it would help many of us cope with hours of boredom! I hope you agree with me when I say that this game was really tough. It gave me a sense of accomplishment when I came first at the highest levels of the game. The cops refused to go down and it seemed like the only person they ever wanted to catch and throw behind the bars was you!

#4 Need for Speed II - Special Edition (1997)

So, you thought I forgot this game just because I did not mention the racing genre in the introduction? Fear not, nobody can forget the FZR2000 as it zoomed past every other car at what seemed to be like a bazillion miles per hour! The track, Mystic Peaks was my personal nightmare. I would fly off the road like a rocket hurtling through the atmosphere. Let us not forget the cheat codes GO43, GO44 etc. and the 'cars' that they let us drive!

Beautiful race tracks and an immersive split screen experience allowed us to exert our dominance over that one friend who thought he was the Michael Schumacher of the racing genre of games. A split screen tournament with no cheat codes was the way to entertain a friend who had come over to dinner with his family.

#3 Claw (1997)

"Landlubber"....."I will have to fight my way out of this one"

This was the game that taught me the necessary 'dialogues' that I would have to use later in my life! 'I don't have all day to run around in circles'. I think it is safe to say that this cat, 'Captain Claw' kept us entertained for hours together as he made his way through various extremely challenging levels!

What was impressive about the game was the variety of weapons it had to offer. Starting from a sword to the formidable magic claw. The boss fights were challenging to say the least as every fight was different. I think it is fair to use the term over-powered (OP) when I speak about the level bosses in this game. A wonderful game with exciting gameplay unique boss fights makes this game worthy enough to be put into this list.

#2 Age of Empires (1997)

Hours of fun!
Hours of fun!

I am sure, all of you have played this strategy game. This was the first game that my parents approved of! 'Ah! finally, a game where you are thinking'. A Friday night get-together with a few friends, a few LAN cables and we are set for the time our lives. Never had we concentrated so hard while studying. But, we would do anything in our power to blow up our friend's base.

The single player campaign mode was equally entertaining and even though you had to wait for a long time for buildings to complete and find resources, I do not think, that any of us have ever gotten bored of playing this game. There was just so much to explore in the map. Needless to say, exploration comes at a price and the price here was being spotted by the enemy and having them chase you to the edge of the universe.

#1 Doom (1993)

BOOOOOMMMMMM!
BOOOOOMMMMMM!

I think you already knew that this was coming. How can a person forget the game that forged the platform for First Person Shooter (FPS) games! An action-packed and exhilarating journey as you blow up millions of demons from hell.

To be honest, this game was a tad bit creepy and it had a certain eerie feeling to it. However, this game did a lot more than simply let you blow up demons. It blew up the gaming market as gamers were drawn to this masterpiece like flies are to honey. This is why this game deserves a spot at the top of the list.
