Resident Evil 2 has been a massive hit among fans. A remake of the 1998 PlayStation game, Resident Evil 2 has been released on Windows, PS4 and Xbox One on 25 January 2019. According to Steam's stats, Resident Evil 2 reached a peak of 67,312 concurrent players just today. It is averaging 30,000 concurrent players and is currently the 9th most played game on Steam, right behind the 10-year-old Team Fortress 2 and 4-year-old Grand Theft Auto V.

These stats make it Capcom's second most successful game and launch ever on Steam. The game joined the ranks of being among the most successful Japanese video games to launch on Steam, behind Dark Souls and Metal Gear Solid.

Resident Evil 2 still does not have the number of active players compared to Capcom's most successful franchise ever, which is Monster Hunter: World. Monster Hunter: World has a peak of almost 90,000 players concurrently playing today alone, averaging about 45,000 players a day. So Monster Hunter: World is doing about 1.5x better in terms of numbers.

Resident Evil has been one of the most successful franchises in history. Not only did they get a great bunch of video games releasing since 1996, but there was also a film series that was made based on the events of the game.

Although the first Resident Evil (1996) for the PlayStation did not get a remake, fans are hoping that these successful numbers will get Capcom to remake some of the older games with updated game engines.

Should you get Resident Evil 2?

If you haven't played the original game released in 1998, you may not have an attachment to the series like other fans do. But the reboot has been considered one of the best remakes in gaming history according to fans.
