WWE 2K20: 5 cover possibilities for the August 5th reveal

This coming August 5th - which happens to be a Monday, imagine that - WWE and 2K Games will reveal who is going to grace the cover of the upcoming WWE 2K20. WWE usually makes a pretty big deal about this (and there's no reason they shouldn't, of course), as there's usually a segment each year on Raw making the announcement.

There hasn't been any official announcement other than that as of yet - just the announcement of a date when they'll make an announcement - although there have been rumors about a possible leak regarding some details.

Since we have some time to kill before we find out who actually is on the cover, let's take a little time to speculate who might be on the cover. By the way, a lot of times, there's a secondary cover every so often, on the reverse side of the case jacket, that will have an "alternate" cover and, well... we're not talking about that. You kids can discuss that among yourselves.

#5 Brock Lesnar

OK, so probably not. The current Universal Champion was previously on the cover of WWE 2K17, and the series hasn't repeated cover stars since switching from the Smackdown vs Raw format.

But, if there was ever a personality that WWE would want a second cover from, it's The Beast Incarnate.

Aside from maybe The Undertaker or John Cena (or someone else we'll get to later), Brock Lesnar is probably the most recognizable performer working in WWE right now, regardless of how often. If there was an image to put on the cover that's going to grab the attention of non-wrestling fans, it would be Brock's.

That being said, it's still pretty unlikely. Unless there's a showcase mode featuring the champion's career (also pretty unlikely), there's not much reason to put him on there other than "it might make a few people decide to buy it."

#4 The New Day

It's a The New Day in WWE 2K19!
It's a The New Day in WWE 2K19!

The New Day have probably had the best year in 2019 out of any three other WWE Superstars.

Not only did Kofi Kingston win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35, but now Big E and Xavier Woods are the new WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions. If WWE plans on continuing this success over the next few months and towards the actual release date, they would be the perfect individuals to grace the cover of WWE 2K20.

On top of that, the WWE 2K games have yet to feature a team on the front of the game, much less an entire faction. With 2020 being a nice round number and somewhat of a milestone year, it might be appropriate for something new this time around.

Despite all that, they aren't a shoo-in for the spot, either. It's possible that 2K and WWE might find that having a single Superstar on the cover is more visually appealing than three.

On top of that, while he certainly would be deserving of the honor, it's hard to imagine Kofi wanting to appear on the cover without the rest of his team. It would also just feel weird to see him there without them, anyway.

Here's hoping for a special WWE 2K20 Special Booty Free Edition, with the entire team on the cover and packaged with an entire box of pancake mix.

No, seriously, we want that. Make that happen, 2K.

#3 Ricochet/Aleister Black

It was shortly before WrestleMania 35 that both Ricochet and Aleister Black made their main roster debuts. While not originally intended to work as a team, an injury to Tomasso Ciampa (teaming with Johnny Gargano at the time) caused WWE to alter their plans.

Even though both dynamic Superstars are well along in their solo careers (and on different brands), chances are good that they'll be associated with each other throughout both their WWE careers in one form or another.

Which is why we've put them in the same entry here - but not as a team.

Both performers are expected to play a big part in the company in the future - Ricochet has already had a run with the United States Championship (albeit a brief one) and Black's debut was hyped up for weeks previous. What better way to make a statement about either one of these two Superstars than by making them the face of one of their biggest items of merchandise?

As we mentioned in the previous entry, WWE and 2K might not be too sold on the idea of more than one Superstar on the cover, but either one would be a perfect pick if that's what WWE wanted to achieve with the spot.

#2 Roman Reigns

To be honest, how has this not happened already?

Is there a bigger full-time Superstar working in WWE right now? OK, that's subjective, but the point is that Roman Reigns has been on-or-near the top of the heap in the company for at least the past five years.

While his former partner in The Shield, Seth Rollins, has already graced a cover himself (WWE 2K17), Roman has yet to do so. To be fair, the last six covers have featured two legends (The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin), John Cena, the aforementioned Brock Lesnar, and AJ Styles. So, it's not like there's been a lot of opportunities for him to snag a spot.

So, this could be the year he finally makes it.

Coming back from a Leukemia diagnosis at the beginning of the year, garnered Reigns a lot of goodwill from WWE fans who had previously been ambivalent toward him at best, hostile towards him at worst. He's still front and center when it comes to WWE's PR, and he's never more than a skip away from the main event, either.

In fact, he would probably be our sure-fire guess for the 2K20 cover star, except there's someone even more appropriate.

#1 Becky Lynch

Yeah. What a surprise, right?

Current WWE Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch, aka the former Becky Two Belts, can easily claim to be as a big - if not bigger - star in the company than anyone else. On that accolade alone, Lynch is a surefire pick to be featured on the cover.

There have also been rumors that WWE 2K20 will have a strong focus on the women's division - a welcome change from previous editions, where they've mostly felt like an afterthought. If that's the case, who better to be the face of that focus?

She'd also have the distinction of being the first woman to appear on the cover of a WWE game on their own - another feather in the cap of the Irish Lash Kicker if it were to happen.

Whoever is picked to be on the cover, we'll find out on Monday, August 5th - possibly during WWE Raw? - as well as get our eyeballs on some actual gameplay footage.
