Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembrey has hit back at criticism from Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso saying that current high-degrading tyres is exactly what they had been asked to do.

Both Webber and Alonso earlier criticized Pirelli for poor performance in the weekend of the Korean Grand Prix. Hembrey said that he understands the frustration of the drivers but they should be mad at their teams rather than the tyres.

“They are no different to maybe Michael [Schumacher]‘s last year. It is maybe a different input if you have to manage the tyres and you don’t want to do it. Then you have a different point of view. And there is nothing wrong with a different point of view. It is just not what we’ve been asked to do at the time,” he said.

“If we had been asked to do no degradation and no pitstops then that is what we will have done,” he added.
