Jimmie Johnson will start from the rear of Sunday's Daytona 500 after getting involved in a three-car wreck early in the first Can-Am Duel Thursday at Daytona International Speedway.
Johnson, who is the only active driver with multiple Daytona 500 wins, dropped out of the single-file line on Lap 8 of the 150-mile with tire issues before getting loose and slamming in Aric Almirola and Daniel Suarez.

Entering his 17th full-time season, Johnson can overtake Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty with an eighth title but he'll have his work cut out in Sunday's Great American Race. A checkered flag at Daytona would tie him with Darrell Waltrip and Bobby Allison for fourth all-time with 84 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series wins.
