Premier League 2018-19: 3 players Chelsea should look to offload next season

It is no secret that Chelsea are in a crisis this season. Despite spending heavily in the summer transfer window, they do not look different than last season.

Unlike Antonio Conte, Maurizio Sarri has now got little to no excuses to defend his job, because Chelsea have been giving him all the players he needs to implement Sarri-ball.

Following their embarrassing results against Manchester City and Arsenal, Chelsea again lost to Premier League big guns Manchester United yesterday. Things are just going from bad to worse for the club.

Many players have not lived up to the expectations, while the club’s new major signings have not created much impact. On that note, here's a look at 3 players who Chelsea should consider selling next season to solve their problems.

#1 Davide Zappacosta

Davide Zappacosta has been badly underutilized by Sarri this season. The ex Torino full back was supposed to be Chelsea's main plan for Cesar Azpilicueta's long term replacement when the Blues bought him for a costly €27.1 million, but that clearly hasn't worked out.

Zappacosta still got some decent game time when he was under Conte. But now the Italian player is not even getting a chance in Europa League as Azpilicueta started in the match against Malmo.

Rumors of Zappacosta's departure have already been doing the rounds since last season, so next summer could be the best chance for Chelsea to part ways with the player.

#2 Mateo Kovacic

Many thought that Chelsea would have the best midfielders in the Premier League when they signed Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho. Sadly for them though, Chelsea's midfield has become one of the vital problems which has led them into the crisis.

Jorginho may still have a chance to stay following his lucrative permanent move, but Kovacic's situation could be different as he is not a regular under Sarri currently.

The Croatian midfielder has failed to meet the expectations after joining Chelsea on loan from Real Madrid. Kovacic has only got 2 assists for Chelsea so far, while his amount of key passes per game has also been underwhelming.

Many were expecting that the Blues will make Kovacic's deal permanent, but it will be a wise decision for Chelsea to return the 24-year-old to Madrid following this disappointing season.

#3 Marcos Alonso

Sarri hailed Marcos Alonso as the best left-back in Europe at the beginning of the season. Now it seems that Alonso is not even the best left-back in the Premier League.

The Spaniard is gradually becoming slow and predictable for his opponents. He has also made Hazard look frustrated at times because of his sometimes woeful passing.

Back when Conte was still in charge, Alonso was known for having a good eye for goal and for being one of the best scoring defenders in the league. Now with Sarri’s ‘offensive football’, Alonso is turning into a liability in the attack, scoring only once despite regularly starting in league matches.

A recent report suggests that Real Madrid still want the Spaniard, so it would be a good move for Chelsea to get rid of their deadweight for an excellent price.
