Since his explosive start to the 2019/20 season, Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Braut Håland has become one of the hottest prospects in world football. Despite being just 19 years old, the Norway international has shown maturity beyond his years.
His 27 goals in just 19 games puts his goal-to-game ratio even higher than Robert Lewandowski, who is experiencing his best season ever. Whilst currently playing for Salzburg, it is clear that Håland will not be playing in Austria for long and a big club move looks inevitable.
Several top European clubs are reportedly interested in signing the rising star, but it is Manchester United which the young Norwegian is reportedly interested in moving to. Given Manchester United's current state it seems odd that Håland would be interesting in joining them.
Here are 3 reasons why the Norwegian should not join Manchester United.
#3 The Champions League
Erling Braut Håland may play in a fairly weak league domestically, but his record-breaking exploits in the Champions League this season show that he is more than capable of facing off against the bigger clubs in Europe.
Manchester United are currently in the Europa League and given their current position and form in the Premier League it looks like they will be in the Europa League next year if they are lucky.
If Erling Braut Håland moves to Manchester United next year, it would guarantee that he would not play in the Champions League next season, with a chance that he may not even play in a European competition, which feels like a step back.
#2 Instability
If there is one word to characterise Manchester United at the moment, it is "unstable". Despite their ceaseless spending and hiring and firing of managers, Manchester United have yet to rediscover their old fabled form they had under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Bringing in former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was seen by some as an attempt to bring someone in who understood the ideals of Manchester United, despite not having too much experience as a manager.
This has not translated into good results though, and Manchester United have continued to show erratic form and are yet to look like a world class team again.
This instability is not a good environment for Håland to move to and it seems apparent that he would do better at a club where it is more relaxed and possesses strong foundations for his growth in this pivotal time of his young career.
#1 There's no rush
An alternative argument applies to all of the big clubs that want to sign him, there is no rush. At just 19 there is absolutely no rush for the Norwegian to make a move to a big club just yet. He's scoring goals by the truckload Salzburg and is also experiencing the Champions League.
That does not sound like a bad place to be for another season, especially when considering that he would turn 21 only by the end of 2021. He would not have to deal with the constant pressure of living up to the hype and pressure that will be inevitably be placed on him were he to move.
Furthermore, it would allow him to mature as a player and a person so that when the time comes for him to make a move to a big club he will be more confident in himself and better prepared for playing in the bigger leagues and a bigger team.
