Mohamed Salah scored the winner against Crystal Palace

Liverpool played Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in their 32nd game of the season and they defeated the Eagles 2-1 in a close encounter to temporarily move to second place on the points table above Manchester United.

Crystal Palace got an early lead in the 13th minute when Luka Milvojevic successfully guided the ball past Loris Karius from the penalty spot. However, Liverpool successfully came back into the game through Sadio Mane just after the break before Mohamed Salah scored the winning goal in the 84th minute.

We look at the three things that went right for Jurgen Klopp's side against Palace.

#3 Forced change in Liverpool's formation

Adam Lallana's injury forced Liverpool to change their formation

Adam Lallana's injury in the 70th minute forced Liverpool to make a change in their formation and they brought in Dejan Lovren to replace him.

Bringing on a defender in place of an attacking midfielder is not a wise decision while chasing the game, however, this decision went in favor of the Reds on this occasion.

Klopp deployed a three-man backline for rest of the game and gave the license to the full-backs to play further forward and help the attack. This proved to be a masterstroke and both their full-backs were their main threats for Palace for the rest of the game.

They swung in many dangerous crosses into the Palace penalty box before Andy Robertson finally assisted Salah to score Liverpool's winning goal in the 84th minute.

Andy Robertson had a good game

Liverpool have lost many crucial points this season due to their defensive woes. They lost many points from winning positions too which have cost them a lot in the recent seasons.

They usually look nervous when the opposing teams attack and eventually end up conceding a goal because, at times, they lack calmness and communication in their backline.

Against Crystal Palace, though, the Reds successfully came from behind and got the lead when Salah successfully guided the ball past Wayne Hennessey in the 84th minute.

Palace started building pressure on them from that moment and went all out in attacks against them. They started playing long balls into the Reds' penalty box and tried to expose their weaknesses.

But unlike previous other countless occasions, Liverpool's backline stuck to their task and did not look nervous as they successfully won all three points for defeating the Selhurst Park outfit.

Mohamed Salah scored his 29th Premier League goal of the season

Liverpool are enjoying a brilliant season and they are scoring goals for fun but that wasn't the case against Crystal Palace. The former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson went into the match with a defensive setup and tried to haunt Liverpool with counter-attacks.

The Eagles were somewhat successful with their philosophy and got an early lead when Loris Karius misjudged the situation and tripped Wilfred Zaha in the penalty box to give Palace the penalty, which Luka Milvojevic successfully converted.

But Liverpool were back in the contest just after the break when Sadio Mane guided James Milner's low cross into the near corner.

The Reds started building momentum in the game after that and Salah got the big chance in the 84th minute and he showed all the composure in the world to slot the ball past Hennessey from near the six-yard box.
