The newly set-up scheduling committee to look into the forthcoming I-League season schedule met in New Delhi today and their first decision was to change the format of the Indian Federation Cup back to its old, one-venue tournament format.

As per an earlier decision, the Federation Cup, India’s version of the FA Cup, was supposed to be played under a new format as a 16 team home-and-away knockout competition. But the scheduling of so many rounds into an already cramped calendar led to the scheduling committee to discuss and then decide to revert to the old format.

As per the latest plans the 35th edition of the Federation Cup would be played as a one venue tournament from January 1 to 12, 2014 either in Kerala or at the Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi.

The decision to revert to the old competition format was taken jointly by the AIFF, the I-League and IMG-Reliance. But if it is the right step can be debated then simply making the Federation Cup into a one-leg competition instead of home-and-away might have also done the trick and surely the costings would have come down as well.
