FPL (Fantasy Premier League) is back for the 2020-21 season. Less than three weeks after the conclusion of the 2019-20 Premier League season, the new FPL game has been launched ahead of the new season which starts on the 12th of September.

Along with the launch of the game, FPL has also announced all player prices. However, since the fixtures for the new season have not yet been released by the Premier League, they are yet to be incorporated into the FPL game.

Prices of players usually depend on their performances in the previous season and also on the player's impact on their teams' performances. While most players' prices are fairly accurate representations of their market values, there are some who are overpriced and do not offer much value to your FPL teams.

These player prices appear inflated due to the player's performances last season or due to the good performances of their teams. On that note, here are the five most overpriced players in FPL 2020-21.

Five most overpriced FPL players in 2020-21:

#5: David Luiz (Defender): £5.5 million

Starting off at number five in the FPL overpriced players list is David Luiz. At £5.5 million, David Luiz is incredibly overpriced for the value he brings to FPL teams and when compared to other players at that price.

The Arsenal defence conceded 48 goals last season and had a higher 'Expected Goals Against' tally of 57, which means that their Clean Sheet points will not be regular.

Besides, David Luiz is no longer the goal threat he once was as he only managed to score only two goals last season. At his price, you may look to get Kieran Tierney who offers much more attacking potential or William Saliba for £1 million cheaper than Luiz if you want an Arsenal defender.

David Luiz is definitely one of the most overpriced defenders in the game and should stay away from your FPL teams.

#4: Joelinton (Forward): £6 million

Joelinton has been one of the biggest flops of last season's Premier League.
Joelinton has been one of the biggest flops of last season's Premier League.

Joelinton was bought by Newcastle last season for £40 million from Germany and ended up being one of the biggest disappointments of the season. He had only two goals and as many assists to his name in 2019-20, yet he is priced at £6 million in the FPL game.

His price is extremely inflated considering he plays for a Newcastle team who does not score too many goals and also because his teammate Allan Saint-Maximin is £0.5 million cheaper than him.

Allan Saint-Maximin, who is registered as a midfielder in the FPL game, managed three goals and five assists last season, despite playing much fewer games than the Brazilian. He is a much better option than Joelinton if you want a Newcastle forward in your FPL team.

Joelinton's price clearly does not match his value and should not be anywhere near your FPL teams.

#3: Nick Pope (Goalkeeper): £5.5 million

Nick Pope was the highest-scoring goalkeeper in the FPL last season.

Nick Pope might be an interesting FPL pick, considering he was the highest points-scoring goalkeeper in the game last season with 170 points.

However, his performance last season led to his FPL price being inflated, which may not represent his actual value. Burnley managed to keep 15 clean-sheets last season, falling short of their xGA, as they conceded 50 goals after having an 'Expected Goals against' of 53.

Pope, who is priced at £5.5 million, may not be worth that price. That is because you can get some of Burnley's defenders like Taylor or Lowton for £4.5 million who have the same clean-sheet potential as well as an attacking threat compared to Pope.

Besides, keepers like Ryan are £1 million cheaper than Pope and have similar clean-sheet potential while also possessing the ability to get save and bonus points. Pope might still be one of the best keepers in the game, but his FPL price of £5.5 is a little too overpriced based on the value he brings.

#2: Jesse Lingard (Midfielder): £6 million

Jesse Lingard may be on his way out of Manchester.
Jesse Lingard may be on his way out of Manchester.

Jesse Lingard's FPL price of £6 million is purely based on the fact that he plays for Manchester United.

In the last two seasons, Lingard has managed only five goals and three assists. However, seven of those eight goal contributions came way back in December 2018.

Despite playing nearly 1000 minutes in the Premier League last season, Lingard failed to make any goal contribution until the last kick on the last day of the season against Leicester City.

It is unlikely Lingard will play a lot of minutes for Manchester United in 2020-21 or feature in many FPL squads. Hence his FPL price of £6 million is exorbitant when you consider the value you get by having him in your team.

In other words, for the same FPL price as Lingard's, you could get the likes of Leandro Trossard from Brighton or Matheus Pereira from the the newly-promoted West Brom. Both these players offer much better value than Lingard.

#1: Roberto Firmino (Forward): £9.5 million

This may come as a surprise but Roberto Firmino is the most overpriced player in FPL 2020-21.

Firmino did manage to get nine goals and as many assists last season, but in his FPL price bracket, there are much better options to choose in the forward line.

Jimenez and Danny Ings are both £1 million cheaper than Firmino. Both managed to score over 40 points more than Firmino last season and represent much better value than the Brazilian.

Besides, as you only get three Liverpool slots in your FPL team, you would not want to waste one of them on Firmino when there are better options like Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and the two full-backs who offer much better value.

In Liverpool's side, Firmino drops off as the false nine and helps to link up play with his back to goal, which means he is not as involved in goals as FPL managers would like. He managed only one goal at home last season, and at his FPL price, Firmino is not a fantasy asset that managers should be considering.
