5 players Arsenal failed to sign in January
Arsenal are having the most Arsenal-like season ever. They started off badly, then went on an incredible 22 match unbeaten run and are now suffering again.
Unai Emery is slowly getting things together but he needs the players who can play his style of football. The manager made some interesting signings in the summer but only managed to get Denis Suarez on loan in January.
They did try to sign a few other players too but failed to land them. Here are 5 such players:
#5 – Yannick Carrasco
Arsenal were keen on signing a wing-back in January and had set their sights on Yannick Carrasco. The Belgian had a very good World Cup and has been in decent form for his Chinese club too.
However, Arsenal could not get him as Dalian Yifang refused to sell him. The agent confirmed the interest from The Gunners and also claimed that the move could now happen in the summer.
#4 – Christopher Nkunku
Unai Emery worked with Nkunku at PSG and was looking to bring him to Arsenal as well. The manager wanted to sign the French midfielder but only managed to sign Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona.
PSG were reluctant to let go of the 21-year-old who has only played 15 times for the French champions this season.
#3 – Ever Banega
Ever Banega to Arsenal has been one of the classics from the Rumour Mill for some time now. The Argentine has worked with Unai Emery at Sevilla and reports suggested that he was keen on working with the manager again.
Reports in late December claimed that the Sevilla star's agent was in London to hold talks with the Gunners. But the winter transfer window has come and gone with the player still at Sevilla.
#2 – Ivan Perisic
Arsenal's need for a winger saw them make a move for Ivan Perisic but that too failed in the end. Inter Milan were ready to sell the former Manchester United target but the Gunners only wanted him on loan for the season.
They were unwilling to sign him permanently in January and wanted an option to buy him in the summer. Inter refused to let him leave on loan and he has stayed put at San Siro.
#1 – Gary Cahill
From being the club captain at Chelsea to becoming an outcast – Gary Cahill's time at Stamford Bridge has been nothing short of tumultuous. He was reportedly set to leave the club in January but nothing materialised.
Arsenal were the favourites to sign him and they were reportedly in talks with him too. But reports suggest he rejected the move as they did not match his wages.
