Ernesto Valverde is doing a brilliant job at Barcelona but the fans are still unhappy. The manager recently signed a new one-year extension but the fans are demanding more entertaining football from him.

The manager is still trying to get things in place at Camp Nou and wanted to sign a few players in January. They managed to seal the deal for Frenkie de Jong and got Kevin-Prince Boateng on loan, but apart from that, nothing else.

Here are 5 players Barcelona failed to sign in January:

#5 Willian

Willian has been a target for Barcelona for some time now. The Catalan side made a move for him in the summer but all their bids were rejected by Chelsea.

Blaugrana made another move in January and even offered Malcom in the deal. But yet again, Chelsea rebuffed the move and Willian remains at Stamford Bridge.

#4 Matthijs de Ligt

With Frenkie de Jong sealed, Barcelona were keen on getting the deal done for Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutchman is seen as a long-term replacement for Gerard Pique and is being chased by several other European giants too.

The Catalan side wanted to get the deal done but Ajax have refused to budge. The Eredivisie side are still trying to keep the defender at the club for another season.

#3 Adrien Rabiot

Adrien Rabiot's contract at PSG is set to expire at the end of the season and he is caught in the middle of nowhere. The Ligue 1 were not willing to sell him to Barcelona in the summer and then again in January, and that forced the Catalan side to look elsewhere.

Now with Frenkie de Jong signed, Rabiot is no longer on Barcelona's wishlist!

#2 Luka Jovic

Barcelona are on the hunt for a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez and had set sights on Luka Jovic. The striker has been in red-hot form in the Bundesliga this season and has attracted interest from several clubs.

The Catalan side tried to sign him in the January transfer window but Benfica refused to call him back from his loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt.

#1 Daniele Rugani

With De Ligt being too costly, Barcelona had set sights on Daniele Rugani. The Juventus star was on the radar for Chelsea as well but rebuffed the move to Stamford Bridge as he wanted to fight for his place in Turin.

However, things have not gone his way and he was looking to leave in January. Juventus were reluctant to let go of him and Barcelona were forced to go back to De Ligt.
