Maurizio Sarri had a very good start at Chelsea but it's all come crashing down. The Italian manager suffered 2 embarrassing defeats at the hands of AFC Bournemouth (4-0) and Manchester City (6-0) in 10 days and the fans have turned against him.
The Blues faithful want the manager sacked and replaced as soon as possible. Zinedine Zidane has been linked with the job but if the sacking does take place, Guus Hiddink might just be heading for Stamford Bridge once again.
However, despite things looking bleak for Sarri, he did try and get the board to sign a few players. The Board, however, did not do much and only managed to get Christian Pulisic, who will only be joining in the summer, and then Gonzalo Higuain, on loan from Juventus.
There were are few more players Sarri demanded but failed to get. Here are 5 top players the manager asked for:
#5 – Callum Wilson
It is a well-known fact now that Chelsea were chasing Callum Wilson in January. The Englishman was in red-hot form and The Blues wanted someone to replace Alvaro Morata.
However, Bournemouth were reluctant to let go of the striker at any cost and the FA Cup holders had to look elsewhere. They got Gonzalo Higuain instead and it does look like a better choice right now.
#4 – Leandro Paredes
With Cesc Fabregas moving to AS Monaco, Chelsea were looking to sign a creative midfielder to play backup to Jorginho. Leandro Paredes was on their wish-list and they made a good offer for him too.
However, with PSG entering the race, they were priced out of the move. The Argentine moved to the Ligue 1 side in January and Chelsea were left without a replacement for Fabregas.
#3 – Nicolò Barella
Another midfielder Chelsea targetted in January as a replacement for Fabregas was Nicolò Barella. The Italian seemed set to join the Blues after they made a huge €50M bid for him.
However, things changed quickly as he rebuffed the move for personal reasons. The Blues, along with Manchester United – who also eyed a move for him, were left hanging and now Inter Milan are favourites to land him.
#2 – Antoine Semenyo
With Callum Hudson-Odoi reportedly keen on joining Bayern Munich, Chelsea made a move for Bristol City's Antoine Semenyo. The teenager was the subject of a £1 million bid by the Blues but it was rebuffed by the Championship side.
They wanted Chelsea to double their bid and the talks ended right there. Semenyo is currently on loan at Newport County and will be heading back to Bristol in the summer.
#1 – Hirving Lozano
With a spectacular performance at the World Cup, Lozano was hot-property in Europe during the summer transfer window. Manchester United and Barcelona were reportedly keen on signing him but nothing materialized.
In January, Chelsea made a move for him but were rebuffed by PSV, Lozano and Mino Raiola. The agent revealed that “Chucky” would not be moving in the winter transfer window at any cost.
