Both clubs have launched bids for the same player, and this has led to superstars being able to pick which of the Spanish clubs to sign for. Madrid do not always come out on top, however, here are five notable players that chose to play in the famous all-white kit.

Real Madrid paid nearly £40 million for 16-year-old Vinicius Junior, despite the fact that he had never played a senior game for his then club, Flamengo. The player is considered by many to be the future of the Brazilian national team and Madrid were desperate not to miss out on the player, as they have forever regretted missing out on Neymar.

Vinicius Junior stated that he had snubbed Barcelona for Real Madrid because he 'wanted to play for the biggest club in the world'. Junior has made his breakthrough in Spain much sooner than expected, and rumors of a Brazil call-up are already been rumored.

After a series of breathtaking performances at the 2010 World Cup, Mesut Ozil had his pick of clubs to sign for. Current employers Arsenal were interested, however, Barcelona and Real Madrid were the two front-runners for the German's signature.

Ozil ultimately chose to move to the Spanish capital after feeling that the club wanted him more. Pep Guardiola failed to meet the German in person, whereas Jose Mourinho fought tirelessly to convince the then 21-year-old to sign for his team. Ozil spent three impressive seasons with Madrid before being sold to Arsenal for £42 million in 2013.

In the summer of 2017, Sani Ceballos rejected a move to Barcelona. The youngster instead opted to sign for Real Madrid, joining for a fee of around €18 million. The midfielder struggled for game time during his first season in Madrid, and it was reported that the player regretted turning down Barcelona.

Despite this, Ceballos has forced himself into the Madrid first team over the last few months, and he is now seen by many to be the future successor to Luka Modric.

After a series of impressive performances for Malaga in 2013, Isco was linked to both Real Madrid and Barcelona. Despite reportedly being a huge Barcelona fan, Isco ultimately chose to sign with Madrid, and this was not the first time that Isco had turned down Barcelona.

In 2010, a young Isco refused to move to Barcelona, reportedly due to his reluctance to attend Catalan language classes. Then in 2017, Isco claimed that Barcelona had approached him, but turned them down again due to being happy in Madrid.

Many believe that the 26-year-old's playing style makes him a natural fit for Barcelona, however, Isco now seems destined to never play for the Catalan club.

Barcelona never made a formal bid for Cristiano Ronaldo, the team were interested in signing the player back in 2009. The Portuguese star was then still a Manchester United player, and manager Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly wanted him to move to Barcelona, rather than Madrid.

Ronaldo reportedly had no interest in a move to the Catalans and instead pushed for his dream move to Madrid. Luckily for us, Ronaldo completed his world record move to the Spanish capital, which led to his epic decade-long rivalry with Lionel Messi.
