Spurs are using the Wembley stadium for the 2017/18 season

A professional football club having their own stadium will be one of the most common and important things for a team. A stadium is a home for the club, which they intend on making their fortress.

Similarly, a home venue can instill fear in the opposition and visiting teams find it hard to adapt to the pressure and atmosphere of the game and the fans. When this happens, teams crack and it affects their performances on their pitch.

However, there have been situations over the years when a football club has had to relocate their home due to reasons such as finances, locations, fan base, resources and re-constructions.

They have to had to play in other stadiums and have been forced to make it their temporary home.

This has affected clubs on several different occasions as they have failed to replicate the success they once achieved previously elsewhere.

Here are the five teams not playing in their own stadiums:

#5 New England Revolution

Galaxy v Revolution
Revolution share their stadium with NFL giants New England Patriots

The Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, United States is the home to Major League Soccer's New England Revolution, sharing it with NFL heavyweights New England Patriots. It has served as the home of the Revolution since 2002.

The stadium seats a total of 68,000 people but the capacity is reduced to 20,000 for football. In 2006, the board had announced their intentions on building a new stadium for the club that would be used only for football. But due to external factors, there were delays for several years.

The Revs owner, Robert Kraft, who also owns the Patriots had put forward the plans for a new football stadium in 2014 in front of the city council as a potential site for Boston's bid for the 2024 Olympics. But the failed bid resulted in the plan not going any further forward and New England continues to play in a non-football stadium.

#4 Minnesota United

TCF Bank Stadium Prepares To Host Minnesota Vikings Game
The deadline for the opening of Minnesota FC's new home has been set for March 2019

Minnesota United FC was founded only in 2015 with the club making their debut in the MLS last year, in 2017.

The club had set out their plans to build their own stadium after receiving the nod from the city council having gone through several discrepancies and complications, announced that the new stadium would be privately financed.

The deadline for the opening of Minnesota's new home had been set for March 2019. This meant that MNUFC had to play their home games in a temporary stadium for their first two seasons in the league.

Minnesota United currently uses the TCF Bank Stadium as their home away from home, in Minneapolis, MN with the venue holding a capacity of 50,000. They share the stadium with the Minnesota Golden Gophers of the NCAA Football.

This will be the second and last season that The Loons will play at this ground before moving into their new home next year.

The team has a great fanbase in their city but last season were unable to fill the stadium with a full set of spectators, with an average attendance of only 20,000 per game.

#3 New York City FC

New England Revolution v New York City FC
New York City FC has built an excellent fan base over the years

Major League Soccer's New York City FC is the sister club of English giants, Manchester City.

NYCFC has been playing their home matches in the iconic Yankee stadium since their debut in USA's top flight league in 2015.

The club has built an excellent fan base in a short span of time, becoming the largest in the league in terms of fan support.

This has resulted in the club attracting a great audience for their games week in and week out, with the average attendance being 23,000 last season in the MLS.

However, the team had announced their plans of building a new stadium in the state of New York.

But the failure to receive any approval has left the club to continue playing in a baseball-specific venue.

But, the NYCFC board intends on having their own stadium and will continue their pursuit of a new site with different options being taken into considerations.

#2 Shakhtar Donetsk

EURO 2012 Venues & Cities - Donetsk
Donbass Arena was a fortress for Shakhtar

Shakhtar Donetsk is one of Ukraine's most successful clubs. They have been a regular representative of their country in Europe, in the Champions League for the last eight years.

When Shakhtar played in their home, the Donbass Arena, they made it a fortress, and achieved great success, even in Europe where they claimed victories over major European clubs in recent years.

The venue holds a capacity of just above 52,000 and hosted five matches of the UEFA Euro 2012.

However, due to the war in 2014 in Ukraine, the stadium has remained closed. The venue was damaged as a result of artillery shelling when the armed forces were involved in an encounter with the Russian separatists.

Due to the closure of the Donbass Arena, Shakhtar had to relocate to Arena Lviv in 2014 before moving to the Metalist Stadium in 2017.

It has been a very difficult last four years for Shakhtar as they have had to play far away from their city, having to share their home with another team as the future with a move back to Donetsk remains unclear.

#1 Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane Scores 100th Premier League Goal For Tottenham Hotspur
Wembley Stadium, the temporary home of Spurs

Wembley Stadium is one of the most historic and iconic venues in both English and European football.

With a capacity of 90,000, the venue has hosted multiple matches, especially the English cup finals as well as the final of the Champions League.

However, it is now the home of Tottenham Hotspur for the 2017/18 campaign as the club are having a new stadium constructed adjacent to their old and demolished, White Hart Lane.

Firstly, Wembley served as the home of Spurs only for the 2016/17 Champions League season.

The group stages did not pan out well last season as the North London club had a mediocre record in their temporary home.

However, this season has been a total contrast of last year as Pochettino's side had a 100% win record in the UCL qualifying for the Round of 16.

It took a time for Spurs to acclimatise to their new home in the Premier League as they failed to win their opening three matches.

But after they got their first win and the players found their feet, Wembley has become a stronghold for Tottenham, as they have won 10 of their home league matches and have been scoring lots of goals.

They have claimed impressive and dominant wins over the likes of Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United and Arsenal thus far.

The duo of Harry Kane and Heung Min Son love playing here, as they have scored in bunches and blown away the opposition.

The construction of the new stadium is expected to be completed this year in order to have it ready for the 2018/19 season.
