Arsenal legend Martin Keown has urged the club to consider appointing former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino into the managerial position at the Emirates as the pressure continues to build on Unai Emery.

Emery's future at Arsenal has been called into question after the team showed no significant improvements after a season-and-a-half under the Spaniard. The Gunners have failed to register a win in their past four league games and currently sit sixth on the Premier League table with 17 points from 12 outings.

Meanwhile, Pochettino was sacked by Spurs on Tuesday night and has swiftly been replaced by Jose Mourinho.

Speaking at a Sportsmail event in London, Keown has stated that Arsenal would be stupid not to consider a manager of Pochettino's calibre as a potential replacement for Emery. He said,

"There's no need for panic at Arsenal, we are getting close but the people at the top of the club should be considering Pochettino.
"I think this is a hugely significant sacking that could cause massive ripples throughout the Premier League.
"Managers will be looking over their shoulders now. A lot of chairmen will want him. Real Madrid would take him, I think Arsenal would have to look at him."

Arsenal will return to action when they face Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday. Meanwhile, Spurs will play their first game under Mourinho against West Ham on the same day.
