Simeone and Atletico will be encouraged by their performance in midweek

The dynamic at the top of La Liga this weekend will be pretty interesting. Atletico Madrid will be in a good position to regain top spot in the league if Sevilla get anything but a win against Real Madrid. To top it all, Barcelona may be on their heels as well if they beat Granada. All of this is stipulated on Atletico Madrid beating Celta Vigo at home.

Atleti play on Saturday, ahead of both Barcelona and Real Madrid who play on Sunday, so this is their opportunity to pile the pressure on the top guns in the La Liga title race. Until they start to demolish teams like Celta Vigo, it may be difficult to consider them title contenders once again. The hitch to that point is Atleti's desperate lack of goals at the start of this season.

They usually don't need to score too many, but their history with some capable strikers has meant that they usually don't need to create too many chances either. However, this season, none of their strikers are particularly prolific and they need someone to step up and fill the gap that Antoine Griezmann left in terms of goals. The best candidate so far has been Vitolo, but he needs others to step their game up as well.

Celta's difficult start

Last season, Celta barely survived the drop thanks in no small part to an inspired Iago Aspas. This season they've shown some decent form at the start, but their first five games haven't been kind. They have already faced Sevilla away and Real Madrid at home, and now Atletico beckon.

They already have 4 points on the board, including a well-fought out point against league leaders Sevilla. Once they cross the Atletico hurdle they will find a runway of a few games they will need to get points from to avoid the situation they put themselves in last season. Yet, when they face Atleti at home this weekend, if they can eke out a performance like they did against Sevilla, Simeone's side might find themselves reeling.
