Barcelona-bound Ajax star Frenkie De Jong: "Don't expect to be in Starting XI right away"

In the latest Ajax podcast, the Barcelona-bound midfielder answers the questions put forth by the listeners and opens up on various topics.

The youngster has been quite essential for Ajax in the Eredivisie as well as the Champions League.

Owing to his sensational performances, the Ajax sensation sealed a move to the Camp Nou for a whooping amount of €75 million plus add-ons in January.

The heart of the matter

In the latest Ajax podcast, the Dutch international opens up on his priorities and what he expects upon his arrival at Camp Nou. De Jong in his interview answered all the questions that were put forward and the youngster had some interesting views.

- “What will you miss most here at Ajax?

Frenkie: “Everything. I enjoyed every single moment here. This club is beautiful and has a beautiful vision about football, and youth. I feel very sad about leaving this club, but I also feel joyful about joining Barcelona.”

- “Do you expect to get a spot in the Starting XI at Barça?”

Frenkie: “I don’t expect to be a starter straight away. I am going there with lots of spirit and I will train hard, hopefully I can get a starting spot soon.”

- “Frenkie or De Jong on the back of your shirt?”

Frenkie: “I don’t know yet, I will talk about it with family and sponsors might have a say in it as well.”

- “Did you already find a house in Barcelona?”

Frenkie: No, not yet. My girlfriend often goes to Barcelona to take a look and to search for something. We do have an idea but not specifically yet.”

- “Winning the World Cup with Holland or Champions League with Ajax?”

Frenkie: “That’s very hard to choose. But right now I would say winning the CL with Ajax."

- Frenkie de Jong: “I am learning Spanish already, taking lessons as well. Catalan looks a lot like Spanish but I first want to learn Spanish.”

Ajax, after thrashing Los Blancos and the Bianconeri, now continue their quest in the Champions League as they now take on Tottenham Hotspur this Tuesday in the first leg of the semifinals away from home.
