What’s the story?

Dutch national team manager Ronald Koeman, who has been linked to the FC Barcelona job as Ernesto Valverde's successor, has addressed the rumours. Koeman said that he is open to the possibility of taking charge of the Catalan giants, but only after UEFA Euro 2020.

In case you didn’t know…

The former Barcelona player and assistant manager was linked with taking charge of the Spanish champions after Luis Enrique's departure in 2017, but the club decided to opt for Valverde instead. Koeman then took the managerial reins of the Netherlands national team in February 2018.

The heart of the matter

Koeman has time and again been rumoured to be one of the top contenders for the Barcelona job if the Spanish giants were to sack Valverde.

Barcelona's inconsistent performances this season have made Valverde's position at the club unsteady, with Koeman's name coming into the frame once again.

Koeman, who is currently in charge of the Dutch national team, has now responded to the links of him taking charge of Barcelona. The Dutchman said,

"Moving there is a possibility but I will not think about it until after Euro 2020."

What's next?

For the time being, Valverde has the complete backing of the Barcelona board but the fans are getting restless. If the board succumb under pressure, Koeman would be an ideal choice for the Barcelona job.
