Barcelona Transfer News: Sanchez Downplays Ronaldo Comparison, Messi Hails New Arrival

New Barcelona signing Alexis Sanchez has quickly distanced himself from comparisons with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Welcome to Barcelona

Sanchez, 22, is known for his quick feet and trickery, maintained that he wants to be known as his own man. Speaking to AS, after completing his long-awaited €26 million (rising to €37.5 million) move from Udinese, Sanchez said:

“Am I going to be the Ronaldo of Barcelona? No, I just want to be Alexis Sanchez of Barcelona. I am proud to play in the best club in the world. Now I have to show my worth. Barcelona are a great team and want to win everything. I am very happy and now I have to prove the ability I have shown so far.”

Sanchez also revealed his excitement at the prospect of playing alongside Ballon D’Or winner Lionel Messi.

“First I have to integrate myself within the group and adapt. I am proud to play with Messi, who is the best player in the world. I never thought that a Chilean would play for Barcelona.”

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has welcomed Sanchez to Barcelona and branded the Chilean as a ‘great player’.

“I have known Alexis Sanchez for a long time and I can confirm he’s a great player and will fit in well within the Barca squad both on and off the pitch.”

Sanchez arrived in Spain yesterday and went straight to Camp Nou. The player will be presented to the fans on Monday at 1230 BST. Sanchez will wear the Number 9 jersey, formerly worn by Bojan, with Alexis written on the back.
