Barcelona vs Tottenham Hotspur: 3 reasons why Spurs could win | UEFA Champions League 2018-19

It's Champions League week, and the big games are underway! The Catalans take on Tottenham Hotspur tonight at the Camp Nou. Spurs were beaten 2-4 by Barcelona when they last met at Wembley, as it was once again a Leo Messi show, and a screamer by Rakitic sealed the win.

However, if Spurs are on the losing end today, they will have to bid goodbye to their Champions League hopes, following the path of their North London rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham Hotspur registered a win last weekend against Leicester City away from home, despite resting their star players - Harry Kane and Eriksen. Dele Alli played some minutes out on the pitch, and scored a goal too. It was a great performance overall from the North London side, and they look in good form to face the mighty Barcelona.

Barcelona sits top in Group B with 13 points to their name, nearly 6 more than Tottenham and Inter Milan. Spurs and Inter Milan share the same goal difference of -1, and if Inter Milan bags a win against PSV, it will be a do or die game for Tottenham.

Tottenham must win the game with a great scoreline, as it is likely Inter Milan will win against PSV. So, if the Spurs plan on moving ahead in the UCL, they must have a better goal difference than Inter Milan.

#1 Current form

Poch must stick to his tactics
Poch must stick to his tactics

After the defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates, Tottenham was in a bad mood. The internet went nuts over the game, with The Gunners celebrating the win! However, Tottenham have regained 3rd spot, with Arsenal back on 5th.

Tottenham since the defeat have managed two wins in a row, and their game against Chelsea tells us what they can do when it's their day. Pochettino relied on his pacy wingers to get in behind the likes of David Luiz and Rudiger, considering the fact that Alonso is mostly caught up high on the pitch. A 3-1 win against The Blues is something they'll cherish forever.

My point is, Poch must stick to his tactics - playing wide and relying on Son and Lucas Moura to get in behind Pique and Lenglet who play a very high line.

It's not impossible to defeat Barcelona at the Camp Nou. If Real Betis could do it, considering Spurs' form, why can't they?

#2 Fatigue

Leo Messi has played all 90 minutes in Barca's last three games

Ernesto Valverde started Ousmane Dembele alongside Suarez and Messi against Espanyol away from home. He thought it might be a tough game, but Leo had other plans, and as a result, the game ended 0-4. Leo Messi played the whole 90 minutes, with Dembele and Suarez nearly playing 70.

The midfield consisted of Busquets, Arturo Vidal, and Rakitic who are again starters in every game. The Catalans have less than 3 days to recover, as all their star players were used against Espanyol.

Valverde's men have won the group and they do not really require a win, so he might as well start his bench players against Tottenham. I think Coutinho will start alongside Suarez and Messi because Valverde just loves Messi. He never plays a game without him, unless he is injured.

Tottenham have a great chance to bag 3 points from the game, as fatigue will hunt down a significant part of Barcelona's starting line up.

#3 Harry Kane and Eriksen

Will they be able to tear Barcelona's defence apart, or will the Catalans hunt them down once again?
Will they be able to tear Barcelona's defence apart, or will the Catalans hunt them down once again?

Spurs fans would want their star players to perform extraordinarily in such an important game, and Eriksen and Kane are the two players who the team and coach will rely on. They are the highest paid players for Tottenham, and their performances show they are worth the pounds paid.

However, Harry Kane was unable to cause any damage when he faced his former side at the Emirates, and neither did he influence much against Barcelona back in Wembley. Eriksen was unavailable for the last game against Barcelona due to an injury, and we will either witness his world-class abilities or just another inconsistent playmaker.

If Tottenham is to win against La Blaugrana today, either one of them is likely to win the MOTM award, as they are heavily involved in every goal Tottenham score or create.

Do not miss out on this game today fellas!
