Borussia Dortmund midfielder Thomas Delaney limped off the field after just 13 minutes of Denmark's clash with the Republic of Ireland.
Dortmund confirm extent of Thomas Delaney's injury
The central midfielder has been a routine starter for this season with six appearances. Averaging around two tackles and three interceptions per game, Delaney has been instrumental in winning the ball from the opposition and acting as a focal points to begin attacks.
While making an appearance for Denmark in the UEFA EURO 2020 qualifying game against the Republic of Ireland on Monday, Delaney left the field after sustaining an injury following a tackle from an opposing player. Initial reports suggested that the injury was quite serious and Delaney might be out for several months.
Dortmund released an official statement suggesting that the midfielder underwent a scan and he was found to have damaged the ligaments on his right ankle. This would keep him out until the winter break with a January return seeming plausible.
This news would definitely come as a blow to Dortmund who travel to Barcelona on 28th November for Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League. German youngster Julian Weigl is expected to replace him in midfield.
