According to the Athletic, Mauricio Pochettino is amongst the candidates being considered by Arsenal, as the club step up their search for a new Head Coach after the sacking of Unai Emery. Despite his allegiance with arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, where he spent five fruitful years, the Argentine is a target for the Gunners and it remains to be seen if they make an approach for him in the coming days.

Pochettino was reluctantly sacked last week after Spurs failed to turn around their torrid run of form and Jose Mourinho returned to the touchline, as he unexpectedly took over the reins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

If the move comes to fruition, it is sure to go down as one of the most controversial switches in Premier League history but it remains unlikely at this stage, as the 48-year-old previously said he'd rather work on a farm than manage Arsenal.

“I am never going to be manager of Barcelona or Arsenal because I am so identified with Tottenham and Espanyol [Barcelona’s city rivals],”

Freddie Ljungberg has assumed his role as interim coach and Pochettino joins the likes of Nuno Espirito Santo and Mikel Arteta in being considered for the job. The Swede is highly regarded by the Gunners will be in charge for the league fixture against Norwich City in the weekend.

The club are in no hurry to name a replacement for Emery and are expected to evaluate their options diligently before making a decision.
